This market was packed with all kinds of shiny trinkets and jewelry. Caroline stood in front of a shelf filled with bracelets.

She pretended to browse casually. Her fingers brushed lightly across the rows as if she wasn’t looking for anything special.

Finally, near the back of the shelf, close to the shop owner’s side, she found the bracelet.

It was a vivid green, glowing like spring leaves after rain. The stone was crystal clear, the kind of color she loved most.

Just as she reached out to touch it, the shop ownera woman in her fifties with a classy airquickly blocked her hand. Sorry, sweetie, the woman said politely but firmly. We don’t let people handle that one. Want to look at something else?

Caroline smiled, realizing the woman thought she couldn’t afford it.

Still, she took a deep breath and focused again. She was sure this was the bracelet.

She looked up and asked, Ma’am, how much is this bracelet? I want it.

The answer stunned her. The price was 400,000 dollars more than everything she had combined.

She tried bargaining for a long time, but even after that, she was still short by 100,000 dollars.

With no other choice, she used every loan app and maxed out all her credit cards.

It didn’t bother her much. When the apocalypse came, money would just be worthless paper anyway.

These online loans would become meaningless once the power grid and internet collapsed. When that happened, no one could track balances or payments anymore, and the world would fully shift into a barter economytrading goods for goods.

According to Caroline’s memories, money wouldn’t exist again until many years later.

By then, it would no longer be tied to old assets. A brandnew currency would be created.

After spending all her money, Caroline felt oddly satisfied. She even bought a bunch of local snacks before heading to the airport.

To be safe, she also used her credit card to withdraw 10,000 dollars in cashjust in case.

By the time she reached the airport, the rain had turned into a heavy downpour.

The flight was delayed because of the weather.

Caroline sat there for an hour, scrolling through weather reports.

The more she read, the worse her feeling got. She was already planning that if the plane couldn’t take off by tomorrow, she’d hire someone to drive her home instead.

An hour later, the airport finally announced that her flight was cleared for takeoff. Caroline let out a breath of relief.

All around her, people were talking about the bad weather.

Some said their houses in low areas were already flooding.

Others mentioned that old family homes were leaking through the roof.

Caroline listened quietly, her brows slightly furrowed as she thought back to the timeline from her previous life.

If yesterday’s heavy rain had made her suspect that the end was near, then the news she heard today was a clear warning.

The apocalypse might come tomorrow.

The plane circled above the city for what felt like forever before finally landing during the heavy storm.

As soon as Caroline got off, she grabbed a cab straight to her apartment.

The moment she stepped inside, she froze. Her solar charging panel, the one she bought online for her phone, was still sitting at the delivery station!

She glanced out the window. The wind howled, the sky rumbled, and rain hammered the glass. Still, she gritted her teeth, grabbed her keys, and decided to go get it.

Just as she opened the door, Raven trotted up, holding his leash in his mouth. He looked at her with those shiny, eagerlooking

eyes.

Caroline gave his head a little push, but Raven didn’t budge.

She realized what Raven wanted. He needed to go outside.

He could use the litter box, but he still preferred doing his business the oldfashioned way. Raven loved to circle around on the grass until he found the perfect spot.

She thought ahead. The coming days would make outdoor walks almost impossible. Better to let him enjoy the lawn tonight before the acid rain arrives.

Since it had been pouring nonstop, Caroline slipped a raincoat over Raven once they got back home.

He clearly hated it, but at least he tolerated wearing it.

The moment they stepped outside, though, the strong wind nearly lifted them off their feet.
