It turned out not everything was unfolding exactly like it had in her previous life.

Back then, the acidity level of the rain had started off weak. It only got stronger after two weeks, once some areas were already flooded.

But now, it was only the second day. The acidity level was strong enough to burn skin within an hour.

Just then, Caroline’s phone started buzzing nonstop with messages.

She opened it and saw that every chat group was sharing the same video.

It showed a farmer who had stayed out in the rain too long. His face was eaten away.

He had gone out with his wife to cover their vegetable garden. The acid rain had destroyed their old plastic roof, so they tried to build a stronger one. While he worked, the wind blew back his hood, and he didn’t think much of it.

By the time he finished, his skin was ruined.

Crying, he pointed at the wilted crops behind him. All our veggies are ruined,he said. We had a cover before, but after two days of rain, it got corroded. One night was all it tookholes everywhere. So this morning, when the rain got lighter, we went out in raincoats to fix it. But the wind blew off my hood, and I didn’t think much of it.

He leaned closer to the camera, showing everyone the wounds on his face.

The rotting skin revealed bloody flesh underneath, and dark liquid oozed from some spots.

That was exactly what acid rain could do.

Caroline looked out the window. The rain wasn’t even that heavy, but she sighed softly. The world was about to fall into chaos.

Sure enough, by the afternoon, the news was full of stories about people fighting over food.

In some rural areas, there were even reports of looters breaking into closed supermarkets.

Those caught were arrested and publicly shamed online.

The government began making announcements, telling people to stay calm, avoid going out, and not to believe rumors. They promised they were working on a solution.

Caroline had no family group chat. Her parents were long gone.

But the community chat was buzzing as always. People bragged about how much food they’d stocked up, posting pictures of shelves packed with snacks and supplies.

The screen was filled with photos of food piled highcanned goods, meat, pasta, cereal, and bottles of water. It looked like a feast.

Under each post, others left comments full of envy. Wow, that’s awesome! You’re so ready for anything!

The praise just made more people show off their stockpiles.

The chat was filled with laughter, encouragement, competition, and excitement.

Caroline quietly studied the names on the screen; each one showed their exact building and apartment number. She couldn’t help

but worry.

When the world finally collapsed and order was gone, these people would be the first targets. The fat sheep. The live targets everyone would remember.

Five days later, the acid rain still hadn’t stopped.

In fact, it had gotten worse; the acidity level grew stronger.

At this point, even an umbrella was useless.

Anyone who dared to go outside had to get creative.

Some wore metal pots on their heads, some carried tables like shields, but most people simply chose to stay home.

Almost all the supermarkets had shut down, businesses were closed, and factories stopped running.

The whole city had fallen still.

But it wasn’t just the city that had gone silent; it was the entire world.

So far, Caroline’s apartment still had power, water, and internet.

But many other neighborhoods were already reporting blackouts and water cuts. Some even lost their internet completely.

The acid rain had started corroding wires, water pipes, and gas lines.

It was only a matter of time before everything stopped working.

The government tried to fix things, but their efforts were in vain.

Caroline even saw it with her own eyes. An electrician working high up on a ladder, his hand eaten through by acid rain, blood dripping down, yet he still kept working.

Moments later, he slipped from the ladder and fell from midair.

Luckily, the ambulance arrived fast and took him away.

Some people exposed online that hospitals were already running out of beds.
