Ivor Jenning (Building B, 15th floor) asked, “Hey, beautiful! Got a boyfriend? I’m single and rich. Want to get to know each other?”
Reese didn’t reply.
Still, Caroline could already picture it–half the guys in the chat were probably adding Reese on WhatsApp by now.
Two minutes later, a notification popped up in the community chat. “Jonathan Lowland has been added into the group by Reese
Hibben.”
Caroline raised a brow. Jonathan moved in too?
Reese quickly tagged Jonathan and proudly introduced him.
She wrote, “Hi everyone! This is my fiancé, Jonathan. We just moved into Building A, 5th floor. I hope we can take care of each other!”
A moment later, both of them changed their usernames to “Reese–A5” and “Jonathan–A5.”
Caroline’s lips curved slightly. 5th floor, huh?
This is going to be fun.
She remembered something. The 5th floor was one of the first levels to go completely underwater when the flood came last time.
Caroline couldn’t recall the exact timing, but it wasn’t long.
And this time, the apocalypse was hitting faster and harder. She leaned back with a faint smirk. This should be interesting.
The next afternoon, just one day after Reese and Jonathan moved in, the internet in their apartment complex went out.
Almost immediately, Caroline heard people stepping into the hallway. They knocked on neighbors‘ doors to ask what was going
People were used to living online–getting news, chatting, and finding comfort in the noise of the web.
Now, trapped indoors while acid rain poured outside like a living monster, with no way to get information, panic began to spread.
Then someone knocked on Caroline’s door.
Even before she reached it, Raven was already on high alert. He sprang up, muscles tightening, tail stiff, and eyes focused on the door.
From his bed to the entryway was about 20 feet, but he crossed it in seconds, silent as a shadow.
His ears stood straight, his body tense, ready to strike if needed.
Caroline walked over and gently patted his head to comfort and praise him.
The knocking didn’t stop. It grew louder, more urgent.
Caroline unlocked the inner door but left the outer security door closed.

A young man stood outside the door. His eyes darted around, sneaky and restless. “Hi,” he said, trying to sound polite. “Do you guys still have internet here? I’ve been running around the whole building, and everyone says it’s down.”
His tone might’ve sounded friendly, but his eyes kept glancing inside the apartment.
Sensing something off, Raven let out a deep, threatening growl.
The man’s gaze instantly shifted toward him. “Whoa! You’ve got a big dog! How come I’ve never seen him before?”
Caroline thought to herself that even though she had lived here for quite a while, she hadn’t met everyone in the building, She gave a faint smile and said calmly, “Our internet’s out too. Looks like it’s down for everyone.”
“Oh,” The man scratched his neck, then lowered his voice. “There are a lot of rumors online saying the world’s ending soon. You stocked up yet? If not, you’d better do it while you still can.”
Even as he spoke, his eyes kept sneaking toward the inside of her home.
Caroline had placed a huge folding screen by the front door, blocking the view of her living room completely.
She’d bought it to hide the small stove she used inside. Most of her supplies were stored safely in her storage space anyway.
