Chapter 48 The Pet Park Discovery
Now that Caroline had more time, she could finally start experimenting with hydroponic vegetables.
Sure, she had a lot of black soil inside her storage space, but when she planted weeds, it grew hemp rope, and when she planted bread, it grew bunnies.
Honestly, that didn’t sound too reliable.
The seventh floor sold all kinds of export–quality clothes, bedsheets, and blankets.
Here, Caroline didn’t just take piles of clothing; she also stocked up on fabric.
After the acid rain, most people’s clothes were damaged, and looking decent in public had become a challenge.
These fabrics would be incredibly useful later.
The eighth floor had a small pet park.
As soon as Caroline walked in, she heard the cries of many animals.
Most of them had died of hunger.
Inside the park, the survivors were three rabbits, two llamas, one sheep, a small pony, a baby cow, about five or six bantam chickens, two guinea fowls, four guinea pigs, and a grey parrot.
That parrot was clearly intelligent. The moment it saw Caroline, it spoke like a person, “Hey, you jerk! You finally came back!”
The strange, flirtatious tone startled Caroline so much that she nearly pulled her knife..
When she realized it was just a parrot, she broke into a sweat.
Who knew what kind of life this bird had before? It sure learned some creepy phrases.
She gathered all the surviving animals into her storage space.
Now that she had a farm, it was the perfect time to fill it with animals.
Rabbits could breed and serve as a source of meat.
Guinea pigs were edible too–some countries even considered them a delicacy.
But Caroline didn’t really want to eat them. She used to keep one as a pet when she was little.
Still, she kept them for now. Who knew when they might come in handy?
She was capable of keeping them alive in her storage space.
The baby cow could produce milk.
The sheep could provide both milk and meat.
Caroline checked–it was a female, the same breed as the black–faced sheep she’d found earlier. Perfect match.

The small pony didn’t seem useful yet, but maybe one day it could serve as transportation.

The llamas could be kept for their wool. It was incredibly warm, something she’d definitely need when the deep freeze came.
As for the bantam chickens and guinea fowls–they were treasures! Both eggs and meat!
Just thinking about it made her grin from ear to ear.
Only the parrot remained a mystery. Well, she’d keep it for company.
After all, grey parrots were said to be the smartest parrots in the world.
Of course, Caroline also took all the animal feed stored in the supply room.
Just by looking at it, she figured there was enough hay and food to feed those animals for at least six months.
Then she continued her raid on the 9th floor.
That level was filled with small private restaurants, foreign cuisne restaurants, and yoga studios.
Caroline cleaned out every single one. She never left without taking something valuable.
On the 10th floor, she hit the jackpot. A jewelry store packed with gold pieces–necklaces, bracelets, and even gold bars. There must’ve been hundreds of pounds of it! She swept it all into her storage space.
After the apocalypse, money would be nothing but useless paper.
Gold and silver became the new currency of power.
And Caroline knew these bars would be worth a fortune later.
The eleventh floor was a large gym.
She stored every piece of exercise equipment. She even took down two giant mirrors and sent them all into her storage space.
By the time she reached the twelfth floor, she was exhausted, barely able to climb another step. But her eyes were bright with excitement.
Tonight’s harvest was beyond anything she’d ever imagined. What she gathered in one night was more than everything she had stockpiled before.
After all, her money was limited, but these twelve floors, packed with the treasures of dozens of companies, were like an endless gold mine. She found surprise at every turn.
Just then, Caroline heard footsteps. Fast, heavy ones.
It was Raven–running.
