Tyler wasn’t being unreasonable. Most of what they picked up this round was just staple food, such as rice, flour, the kind of things that filled the stomach. The spicy snacks could wait, so coming back later was logical.
“Looks like I’ll come along for another trip too.”
Caroline had no option but to go along with the team.
She glanced at Raven, who looked restless just standing guard. Caroline pulled out a sausage, peeled it, and offered it to Raven.
Raven’s tail wagged wildly as he chewed happily, savoring the treat.
But halfway through, Raven froze. He dropped the sausage and crouched low, eyes fixed on the entrance of the supermarket.
Caroline followed his gaze. It was aimed right at the doorway.
“Someone’s coming.”
She kept her voice quiet.
Raven was clever. He didn’t bark, just lowered himself and gave a silent signal.
They still couldn’t hear footsteps, which meant whoever was approaching wasn’t that close yet.
Caroline thought for a moment, then asked Raven, “How many?”
She was mostly testing him, but Raven sniffed the air deeply, then tapped the ground four times with his paw.
Four taps. Caroline exhaled.
There were three of them. Kay wasn’t great in a fight at the moment, but handling two people wouldn’t be an issue.
Tyler’s combat ability was uncertain, but Caroline figured he could deal with three on his own
without trouble.
And Raven? He was fierce enough to take down four or five men by himself.
They exchanged quick looks. Kay looked uneasy, but Caroline and Tyler didn’t mind at all.

They kept loading items onto the inflatable raft, stacked a few cardboard boxes underneath, and prepared to haul it out.
The supermarket’s storage room was well hidden, and they didn’t want anyone else stumbling upon it. So after packing, they shoved a shelf in front of the doorway as a barrier.
When they were done, voices could finally be heard outside the market.
Caroline didn’t pause. She went first, dragging their load toward the exit.
At the entrance, they ran right into another group.
And of all people, it had to be Ivor and his crew!
Ivor froze when he spotted Caroline. His shoulder still carried the wound from her blade, and he’d been running a fever for days. It had only broken earlier that morning.
That was thanks to his gang robbing an elderly couple on the twelfth floor for fever medicine. As for the way the old pair cried and begged, the gang couldn’t care less.
They got the door open by pretending to need help. Once inside, they not only stole every pill but stripped the place bare.
Rumor was, the old man hanged himself that morning.
Ivor’s crew didn’t feel the slightest guilt.
They’d been smashing into apartments nonstop, not because they were desperate but simply because they wanted to. They even spotted rescue workers earlier in the day, which made it feel like maybe the nightmare was ending.
But…
“So, you think once the water drains and everything’s normal again, we’ll have to quit taking whatever we like?”
Someone in Ivor’s crew had asked after seeing the rescuers.
That comment snapped them awake. So tonight, they hit the mall, hoping to grab valuables before order returned.
Gold and jewelry were their main targets.
The supermarket was just a stop along the way.
