Even if it was just to get payback for all the fear and anxiety she’d gone through in her previous life.
Even if it was to protect people who might be threatened or hurt by those jerks later on.
Even if it was just to make sure she stayed safe.
They had to die!
With that in mind, Caroline gave the blood–covered knife she’d used to kill Ivor a sharp flick. Then, she turned to the unconscious twins. She didn’t hesitate and finished them off fast.
“You got off easy, honestly.”
She gave them a hard kick, thinking how lucky everyone else was that those three scumbags died early in the apocalypse.
Tyler stepped closer and looked at Caroline, who’d just killed three people without flinching. “Ms. Sinclair, care to explain why you wiped them all out?”
His tone was curious, but there was a hint of admiration in his eyes.
“Because they deserved it.” Caroline met his gaze and smirked. “Mr. Lowland, when you pointed your knife at regular folks without thinking twice, I didn’t see you hesitate either. How do you explain that?”
She put stress on “regular folks“, hinting she was starting to question his retired soldier story.
Tyler smiled, his eyes narrowing slightly, but his expression stayed calm. “I caught them bullying women. I figured a little punishment might teach them a lesson. But last night, while getting supplies, I heard them brag about driving an old man to his death. Keeping jerks like that around is an insult to a retired soldier like me.”
Caroline hadn’t expected him to be so honest.
The way he casually mentioned his supply run made her trust him a bit more.
It was as if he were offering her an olive branch, treating her as one of his own.
But the phrase “a little punishment” caught her attention. She was about to ask, but Tyler spoke before she could.

“Yeah, I killed that bastard downstairs.”
He didn’t wait for her response and just said it flat out.
Caroline gave a small nod.

She’d wondered before who could sneak in and kill a man in his sleep without Freya noticing. She’d guessed Tyler, but she hadn’t been sure until now.
“Mr. Lowland, I respect that.” Caroline reached out her hand. Tyler shook it without hesitation.
Kay, standing off to the side, was still shaken by everything she’d just seen.
But when she learned Tyler had killed the guy who hurt her, she snapped out of it fast. Freya was getting her dues, too.
Kay felt a rush of satisfaction. She clenched her fists, smacked her trembling thighs twice, and made up her mind.
I need to get stronger. I can’t hold them back. I’ve got to toughen up and adapt!
After that, the group lugged all the supplies back home.
As she’d said, Kay only took a small portion. The rest went to Caroline and Tyler, even including Raven’s share.
In the end, Kay only kept a few bags of flour, some pasta, canned goods, vacuum–packed meat, a couple of cases of water and drinks, and some odds and ends. Plus, one inflatable rescue boat.
Caroline and Tyler insisted on splitting the boat evenly, so Kay got hers.
She didn’t complain–she was actually kind of happy.
Caroline didn’t offer to give up any of her share either.
She had plenty of supplies and was happy with Kay, but a deal was a deal. She had to follow through.
