Chapter 96 Richard Grant
Chapter 96 Richard Grant
Some people weren’t satisfied with the government’s drop at all.
A group of young folks from upstairs decided to go out hunting for supplies.

Jonathan and Reese joined them. The leader was John–the same guy who begged to meet Reese after spotting her photo in the Community Chat.
He lived right above them. Lately, John and Reese had been sneaking off together a lot.
Every time he showed up, he brought her food or drinks, which was why she didn’t look as worn out as Jonathan.
John might be simple–minded, but he was definitely a pervert.
He’d definitely gotten favors from Reese.
Jonathan didn’t know any of that.
So, when Reese told him John wanted to go search for supplies and asked if Jonathan wanted to come, Jonathan felt touched.
John looked like he could handle himself–fit, athletic, someone who could fight. Going out with him felt safer.
But John glanced at them awkwardly and asked, “Do you guys have anything like a washbasin at home? I only have a big tub. It can only fit me and Reese.”
Jonathan didn’t like how that sounded.
Reese was his girlfriend. How could she go off with someone else?
But she looked at Jonathan sweetly. “John thinks I’m small, so he said I should sit with him. Don’t overthink it. We don’t have anything sturdy anyway. Maybe you should skip this trip?”
Jonathan had been feeling beaten down and wasn’t about to stay behind.
He forced himself to act brave and managed to pry the neighbor’s door off its hinges.
“I’ll use this. I’ll go with you.”
But people laughed at him right away.

Jonathan looked weak and clumsy. The second he stepped out, he lost his balance and fell into
the water.
He went pale, clenching his fists. He’d never been humiliated like that before.
Reese’s eyes lit up with a plan. She leaned close and murmured, “Your uncle has a boat. I saw him head downstairs to look for supplies. Why don’t you ask him? Maybe he’ll lend it to us.”
Jonathan brightened. It was his uncle, after all. If he asked politely, maybe he’d get the boat. Then, the people who’d laughed at him would shut up. He could choose who got on the boat!
Picturing it, he pounded his chest and said he’d go ask to borrow it–completely missing the look Reese and John exchanged.
The whole thing was just their act for Jonathan, tricking the poor guy into requesting the boat.
Things were tense on Caroline’s side as well.
Bethany’s son showed up.
His name was Richard Grant, 35 years old. He didn’t have much going for him except being obsessively loyal to his mother. His loyalty to her blinded him to everything else.
Anything good at home went straight to Bethany. If she wanted something, he did it. This morning, Bethany had told him not to go upstairs for supplies, so he stayed behind.
His wife argued, and he hit her so hard she was too scared to speak afterward.
But when everyone returned with supplies happily, Bethany was missing.
When he asked around, he learned she’d been killed.
No one could tell him who did it.
Rumor said Bethany’s body had been thrown out.
Even the supplies they were supposed to get were tossed down from the 66th floor by Caroline!
So, not only had the government given them nothing, but Bethany had died because of it.
Richard lost it and sobbed. Then he grabbed a kitchen knife and stormed up to the 66th floor, ignoring his wife’s protests.
