Caroline kept a hard expression as she helped Kay to her feet.
Richard hit the wall, but he scrambled up fast. He had a knife and lunged again.
Tyler didn’t give him another shot. He grabbed Richard’s wrist like a clamp.
The kitchen knife flew out of Richard’s hand and hit the floor.
“Ahhhh!”
Richard’s scream filled the hallway as Tyler coldly threw him down, leaving him collapsed and wailing.
“What’s happening?” Caroline asked Kay, who was standing nearby.
“That’s Bethany’s son.”
Caroline understood right away.
So that was why he came? Seeking revenge?
She almost found the situation funny.
She let Kay go and walked up to Richard. Looking down at the useless man, she delivered a hard kick. “Do you even know how your mom died?”
Richard lay there, confused, and shook his head.
“Do you know why she died?”
He shook his head again.
Caroline nearly laughed. He knew nothing and still showed up to cause trouble.
Before she could say more, Richard jumped up and shouted stubbornly, “I don’t care how my mom died! Everyone says it’s because of you guys!”
Caroline caught the key word. “Who told you
that?”
“The people who went for supplies! They said it was your fault! If you don’t answer me, I won’t drop this. Especially Caroline–I want her to pay for my mom!”

Chapter 97 An Idiot
Richard yelled at the top of his lungs.
Caroline looked at him like he was clueless.

She hadn’t expected those neighbors to smear the 66th–floor residents like that. Did they truly think the three of them were easy marks?
Fine. If they wanted to play dirty, she could get rough, too.
“Your mom ate a lot of people’s rations. That’s basically cutting off their lifelines. Then she went stealing food like some desperate ghost. If you’ve got guts, why not save rations for her?” Caroline said coldly.
“Bullshit! If my mom stole things, why didn’t they say so? They said you killed her! Besides, if you can’t guard your supplies and my mom eats them, that’s your fault!”
Bethany had raised a handful. Richard was just as shameless.
He tried to stand, but Caroline kicked him down again.
All that running up and down the stairs had paid off. Her legs weren’t just for show.
“You idiot. They said we killed your mom, and you just came here? Aren’t you supposed to be a good son? Where were you when they beat your mom to death?
“Oh, right, where were you when she was stabbed? Blood everywhere, but not one person stood up for her.
“We didn’t kill her. If you have guts, go find the real killer. Stop yelling here.”
Caroline stared at him. Her eyes were so fierce that Richard backed away.
“Fix our door. Bring up three bottles of water and apologize to Kay. Or I’ll tear your place apart tonight!”
She didn’t want to waste more words on him. Her tone was cold.
He didn’t want to give in and kept shouting, “If you didn’t kill her, then who did? Who?!”
She slammed him against the wall. “You always do what your mom says, right? She’s always bossing you. I’m not her. Why should I tell you who did it? Go find it out yourself!”
Caroline pressed a sharp knife to his neck. “Listen or die. Your choice. I know you’ve got a brat at home who annoyed me before. Last time I spared him. Want me to kill him this time?”
