Jonathan was desperate, clinging to Tyler like a lifeline. Uncle Tyler, please, I know you’ve got a boat. Can you lend it to me? I’m starving here. Do it for the family’s sake.

Caroline had just finished dealing with Richard, and now Jonathan was here. The nonstop chaos annoyed her.

She folded her arms, flashed Tyler a fake grin, and said, Handle it yourself. If you give in once, he’ll just keep coming back with the same excuse. You might as well tie him to your belt and drag him everywhere.

Their group on the 66th floor had plenty of inflatable rescue boats and inflatable rafts. Giving Jonathan one wouldn’t hurt.

But the problem was what came after. If they handed one over now, would he keep showing up, leaning on their socalled family bond every time?

Caroline already had plans to get rid of Jonathan and Reese. Still, with the deep freeze coming soon and acid rain wrecking the fifth floor, life for them was already a nightmare. She figured letting them suffer longer was punishment enough.

Even so, Jonathan and Reese kept showing up, and Caroline was beyond tired of it.

After saying her piece, she went back inside, done with the whole thing.

Tyler glanced at Jonathan and said flatly, I don’t have a boat. Then, he also went inside.

Jonathan stayed outside, wailing at the door, but nobody bothered with him.

It wasn’t hard to picture everyone laughing at him once he slunk back downstairs,

Caroline didn’t care one bit. She went home, grabbed Raven, and took a nap.

By the time she woke, it was already 9:00 p.m. She heard a bunch of banging and clanging outside.

She stepped out and saw Tyler putting up a huge iron gate where the old stair fence had been. Now nobody could peek inside the 66th floor.

Caroline slipped on a jacket, strolled over, and asked, What’s this about?

Too many people keep showing up. It’s annoying. Out of sight, out of mind.

Chapter 98 Sparring

Tyler’s sleeves were rolled up, his hands busy, his brows drawn tight with irritation.

Caroline chuckled and started to walk off.

But Tyler called after her, Tomorrow, I’m training Kay and teaching her to fight. You wanna join us?

Caroline stopped for a second.

She knew he meant well. More sparring partners meant quicker reflexes in a real fight. But she still shook her head.

The truth was, she already felt stronger thanks to the spring water. With her experience, she had her own methods for training. She didn’t need group sessions. Plus, she had Raven.

Tyler was strong, but Raven was just as tough. She sparred with him daily, and that was enough. It wasn’t arrogance. She just trusted her dog more than people.

Even though she was teaming up with Tyler and Kay, they were just allies for now, not true

teammates.

Kay, on the other hand, was eager to train. She wanted power fast. She’d been an athlete and a yoga instructor, so while she looked delicate, her body was solid.

After a few days, she could pull off some solid moves and dodge wellthough she still needed more strength.

Compared to most folks, she was already impressive. She never complained, no matter how brutal training got. Her determination was unshakable.

Caroline often saw Tyler knock Kay down again and again, but Kay never whined. She’d just spring back up.

There was fire in Kay’s eyes. It was an unshakable hunger for strength and a shot at a better future.

Caroline thought it was the truest picture of an ordinary girl struggling to survive in the apocalypse.

Kay even pushed herself to learn militarystyle boxing and combat techniques, improving quickly over just a few days.
