Henry thought, ‘With a guy like Charles, he could have any woman he wanted. So why is he so obsessed with Alicia?‘ But he didn’t dare ask or say anything.
Suddenly, Charles opened his eyes and shot Henry a cold glance. “Got something to say?”
Henry shook his head quickly. “No, nothing.”
Charles closed his eyes again.
After about half an hour, the car pulled up to the family house. Kevin got out and opened the door for Charles, who stepped out gently.
Henry had been about ready to lose it all throughout the ride. As soon as the car stopped, he couldn’t wait- he pushed the door open and jumped out.
Charles didn’t even look at him and walked straight into the house.
It wasn’t one of the usual family gathering days, and Charles rarely visited without a reason. So when he showed up today, Samuel was thrilled.
Samuel was sitting in the living room reading the paper. Even though digital newspapers were everywhere, he still preferred the feel of a physical paper and had it delivered every day.
Lost in his paper, he heard footsteps by the door and, thinking it was Samantha coming back, didn’t even bother to look up. “We should make something spicy for dinner. It’s been too long.”
“Can’t do it,” Charles replied coolly.
Samuel paused, then quickly looked up. Seeing Charles, his face immediately lit up with a smile. “Charles, what brings you home today?”
“Am I not welcome?” Charles said, still in that cool, slightly teasing tone.
“Come on, this is your home–you’re always welcome here,” Samuel replied warmly, hurrying to call out to the maid. “Linda, make some coffee, use that new bag of coffee beans I just bought.”
Linda acknowledged and went off to handle it.
Samuel asked with a smile, “Busy at work lately? Running the company is tough. If you can, delegate tasks- don’t burn yourself out.”
Charles just replied indifferently to his questions. Neither of them mentioned their last argument. It was as if it had never happened.
Henry sat quietly, feeling completely invisible. No one seemed to notice him. He felt a pang of jealousy. Everyone always said grandparents favored their grandkids, but Samuel was way closer to Charles than he ever was to Henry.

Henry just sat there, silent. He had no idea why Charles brought him here, best in front of his uncle, saying quiet was the best option. If Charles got angry, not even Samuel could protect him.
It seemed like Charles was in a bad mood today,
When Charles was angry, he didn’t yell or throw a tantrum. He made one regret everything without raising
his voice.
Sull, Henry didn’t think Charles would go that far with him. After all, Charles and Henry’s father were close But that didn’t calm Henry’s nerves,
The coffee was ready, and Charles calmly sipped it, then said, “Let’s move this month’s family dinner to today.
Tell Cameron and Patricia to come over
Samuel thought Charles was just stopping by unexpectedly, but he quickly realized it was about rescheduling
dinner.
He felt a little disappointed but tried to reason with Charles. “Cameron and Patricia might have plans. You didn’t give them a heads–up, so how about just a regular dinner tonight and reschedule the family gathering for later?”
Before Samuel could finish, Charles had already put the call on speaker. On the other end. Cameron’s gentle voice came through. “Charles, what’s up?”
“Cameron, I’m at the family house. I want to move this month’s family dinner to today. Are you free?” Charles asked.
“Yeah, we’re free. Patricia and I don’t have anything going on, so we’ll head over right away, Cameron replied, sounding genuinely pleased.
Samuel muttered under his breath about Cameron. ‘Honestly, Cameron just doesn’t get me at all. So hopeless, he thought.
Still, Samuel cherished any time he got with Charles, so he immediately started chatting with him, trying to be as warm and friendly as possible. But Charles just kept his usual cool, distant vibe.
Samuel felt a little frustrated by his son’s detached attitude but didn’t dare say anything. He was afraid that pushing too hard might drive Charles away like last time. He also didn’t dare mention Charles’s mother.
For
years, Rosalie had stood as an unbridgeable rift between father and son. All Samuel could do was walk on eggshells, watching every word he said around his son.
Cameron went to get Patricia. “Patricia, Charles just called–he’s moved our family dinner to today. He’s already at the family house and wants us to join him.”
Patricia was doing a face mask when Cameron told her, and she instantly got annoyed. “Your brother is really something else, isn’t he? Just changes plans without any notice.
“He never thinks about anyone else. What if we weren’t home today? What if we had plans? Should we just drop everything for a family meal?”

Cameron sighed. “Charles is busy. It’s rare for him to have free time. We don’t have anything planned anyway. And he did ask if I was free.”
“Of course, you’re always covering for him. You treat him like your little brother, but do you really think he trusts you? All these years, you do whatever he says at the company.
“He wants to switch things up–knowing full well the shareholders won’t like it–and he dumps all the tough, thankless work on you. And when things work out, he takes all the credit. Has he ever treated you like family?
“And Samuel, don’t even get me started–he sides with him on everything. You’re the rightful heir, the one born to Samuel’s actual wife, but Samuel insists on propping up the other woman’s kid,” Patricia said.
“Enough,” Cameron said coldly.
