Chapter 185
“Patricia, can you bring this dish to the table too?” Samantha said, pointing at the plate set aside.
Patricia smiled and said, “Sure.”
Samantha carried another dish out and called into the living room, “Dinner’s ready!”

Everyone got up to wash their hands, while the servants brought the dishes out one after another.
Once everyone was seated at the table, Samuel made his usual speech about family unity. He always said it at family gatherings. When he was done, he grinned and said, “We’re all family here, so relax and dig in.”
Just as everyone was about to dig in, Patricia flashed Charles a grin and said, “Charles, you know Henry’s been graduated for almost a year now, and he’s still got no job.
“He can’t just laze around the house day after day. Keep going like this, he’ll just waste away. The Yates family doesn’t raise kids to be freeloaders, right, Samuel?”
She shot a look at Samuel, making it absolutely clear she wanted him to say something too.
Samuel felt the sting of those words. The Yates family wasn’t the type to spoil their kids–every one of them was supposed to have ambition, to know the family’s success was everyone’s responsibility.
So Samuel added, “You’re right. Henry’s already twenty–two; he should be working by now, not just hanging around doing nothing.
“When I was his age, I had already earned my first real paycheck. He’s never even stepped into the workforce, and that’s a problem. Charles, do you think you could help him find something to do?”
Henry watched, annoyed, as his mom tried to push him into the family business again. He hated it every time this happened. He still thought he was too young to be working full time.
He wanted to enjoy life a bit longer. He had no desire to turn into Charles, all stiff–faced and buried in work like some corporate robot.
Every time, Henry’d come up with some excuse to brush it off, and Charles never forced the issue.
But today, things were different. Henry wanted in on the company–maybe even wanted to run it someday.
‘So Alicia really thinks I’m a loser now, huh?‘ Henry’s jaw clenched at the thought. ‘Fine. Just wait–I’ll prove her wrong and show her what I’m really capable of.
Seizing the moment while his mom and his grandfather were still speaking up for him, Henry raised his glass and looked at Charles. “Uncle Charles, please give me a chance.
“You, Dad, and Grandpa have worked so hard for this family. Now that I’m grown up, I can’t just sit back and enjoy life. It’s time I start carrying some of the responsibility too.”
Patricia was genuinely surprised by her son’s words. Usually, whenever she mentioned him joining the

company, he’d dodge it or joke, “Why bother with all that work when someone else does it and we still get paid?”
But today, Henry was actually raising his glass to Charles and asking for an opportunity himself. ‘Looks like my boy really has grown up. Patricia thought, feeling proud.
She glanced at Charles, eager to see if he would finally allow Henry into the company now that even Samuel had spoken up.
Charles, leaning back in his chair, glanced lazily at Henry. His eyes were calm, but there was a darkness to them that made Henry’s hand shake slightly as he held his glass.
Patricia caught sight of her shaky son and couldn’t help but feel both frustrated that Henry was so spineless, and annoyed that Charles was publicly snubbing him.
Henry had just given a toast, and Charles wouldn’t even acknowledge it–just sat there, staring with that icy look.
‘Is Charles really trying to intimidate Henry into backing out on his own? That guy’s way too calculating, Patricia thought, biting back her irritation.
Before she could speak up to break the tension, Charles finally said, “So, what were you planning when you dragged that girl into your car today?”
Henry froze, confused by the question. After a moment, he realized Charles was talking about Alicia. But he didn’t know how to respond. He sat there, stunned, unable to find the words.
Instead of giving an answer about the company, Charles’s question had suddenly shifted all the attention- and pressure–onto Henry.
Samuel, Patricia, and Cameron all looked at him, their eyes full of expectation. He suddenly felt as if he’d been stripped bare and tossed onto the street, exposed and humiliated for everyone to see.
“I…” Henry stammered, his throat tightening–he could barely force out a single word.
Charles spoke up again, his voice still flat and chilling. “Were you planning to assault her?”
The room went dead silent, and everyone’s faces drained of color.
Cameron stared at Henry in total shock, his face twisted with anger. “You were actually going to force yourself on a girl? Henry, what the hell is wrong with you? How did I end up raising a son like this?”
With that, Cameron hurled his glass straight at Henry’s face.
The glass hit Henry, sending his head jerking to the side. His cheek immediately swelled, showing just how hard Cameron had thrown it.
Patricia instantly jumped up, protecting Henry. “Cameron, what the hell? That’s your son! How could you hit him like that?”
She cupped Henry’s injured face, her heart breaking. She wanted to blame Charles for everything, for
