She hauled me toward the door while Liam was still laughing when the door shut behind us.

And I was smiling, because somehowI still got to call him mine.

I was smiling while rinsing a mug I’d already washed twice.

Not because it was dirty. Because I couldn’t stop replaying the way he kissed me.

My mom walked in, looked at me once, and smirked. Soyou two made up.

I tried not to grin harder. What makes you say that?

You’re humming, she said, pulling open the fridge. You only hum when you’re happy or up to something.”

Can’t it be both?

She laughed. “Just don’t float away. I need a movie partner tonight.

Deal. But I pick the show.

Fine. But no sad ones. You’ve cried enough for one lifetime.

Then she grabbed the popcorn, I grabbed the remote, and we curled up on the couch like we used to when I was younger and believed happy endings came easily.

The world melted away. The weight I’d been dragging around loosened its grip.

Somewhere between our favorite episodes and the third bowl of popcorn, I lost track of time.

Until my phone lit up.

Liam: Come outside. It’s time for your punishment.

My heart did a somersault.

I peeked over at my mom, who was too deep in a plot twist to notice the reckless grin spreading across my face. Slipping on a jacket, I tiptoed toward the door.

Liam was leaning casually against his car, suit jacket tossed somewhere in the backseat. Just

tailored trousers and a white shirt now

The second his eyes found mine, they lit up.

And I sprinted like a child chasing the one person who made everything feel safe.

His arms opened a beat before I reached him.

He caught me midjump, laughing into my hair as his arms wrapped tight around my waist. My legs curled around him like they were muscle memory.

And then I kissed him.

Right there in front of the house.

The kiss was fullthrottle, no brakes, nothing held back. His lips moved over mine like he’d been starved for days. My fingers dug into his hair. When we pulled apart, breathless, he looked dazed.

With that kind of welcome,he said, voice husky, are you sure I shouldn’t come here every day after work?

I laughed against his mouth. Are you here to kidnap me?

I’m here to claim you.His hands slid to my thighs. And maybe steal you away for the night.

I blushed. I can’t leave without telling my mom.

Liam smirked. I can’t wait to officially meet her soon.

You’re seriously brave,I said, hopping down.

I ran back inside to let Mom know and of course, she saw everything.

When I told her, she didn’t even pretend to be shocked.

Tell him if he breaks your heart again, I know where his house is,” she said, biting into her popcorn.

Got it.

Oh, and you might wanna fix your hair. You look like you’ve already had round one.

MOM!

The ride to Liam’s place didn’t even feel like a ride. We spent most of it teasing, fingers entwined over the gear shift, brushing lips at every red light.

By the time we stumbled through his front door, it was a miracle we had clothes on.

I should shower,I murmured against his neck.

You’ll need it after,he said, picking me up without breaking stride.

We didn’t make it past the living room the first time. Or the hallway the second.
