Chapter 131
Sophia lost it. “If you don’t get off this doorstep right now, I swear I’ll send you home in picces.”
Cassie smirked but didn’t fight back. “Fine. But I’ll be back. And you’ll all see I’m not lying.”
Liam looked ready to tear her apart.
I grabbed his hand. “Liam. Please. Go inside.”
He looked like he wanted to argue. But he nodded.
I turned to Cassie. “We’ll talk again. But not like this. Not now. Please just go.”
She gave me one last look. “We’ll see how understanding you are when reality kicks in.”
Then she walked off..
Sophia slammed the door shut and leaned against it, breathing hard.
“I don’t understand how you’re still being nice to that girl.”
“I’m not being nice,” I said quietly. “I’m just… too exhausted to fight her. I want to go through this clear–headed.”
She looked at me, her anger softening into heartbreak. “You don’t deserve this.”
“I know.”
“I swear, Em… if I could
carry
this for
you,
I would.”
I gave her a small, sad smile. “You’re already doing enough.”
“I’ll be back,” I say quietly. “I need to check on him.”
Liam’s room was dim, the curtains pulled halfway open. He sat by the window, his back slightly hunched, shoulders still.
“Liam,” I said softly. “You have to calm down. She’s trying to…

He turned slowly.
And stopped me cold.
His face wasn’t angry.
It was broken.
His hands were clenched, trembling slightly.
In one of them, my phone.
My heart dropped.
I’d meant to delete it.
Looks like I didn’t move fast enough.
He looked at me, voice rough and low.
“She sent this to you?”
I nodded, throat too tight to speak.
His eyes scanned the message again, then closed slowly.

“I’m giving him what you never could.” He whispered it like it tasted rotten in his mouth. “Time to step aside. He’s mine now.
He looked back at me.
”
And I had never seen him so quiet.
So hurt.
So completely undone.
Then he said the only thing that made sense in that moment.
“How can someone be this cruel?”
And I didn’t answer.
Because I didn’t know.
I just walked across the room and sat next to him.

Chapter 131
And for the first time since the Cassie storm hit, neither of us tried to be strong.
Cassie wanted to talk, and I convinced Liam to let her.

That’s how we ended up in his living room – Liam and me on one sofa, Sophia in the armchair, Jay on the other side of the coffee table. Cassic sits opposite us like she’s been invited to a press conference.
She kept going, voice sugary but steady, about her doctor’s instructions, how the pregnancy was “high risk” and needed constant monitoring, and how her family wasn’t in the States to help.
The only movement in the room is Sophia, crossing and uncrossing her legs, throwing daggers with her eyes.
“Keep this short,” Sophia cut in. “Get to the point.”
Cassie’s mouth curves like she’s been waiting for the line. “I need a place to stay.”
Liam’s voice is calm, but it cuts clean. “Fine. I’ll get you a place. You stay there while this gets handled.”
“That would be pointless,” she said, tilting her head. “There’d be no one there with me.
