Chapter 143
Sophia cradled her mug, leaning against the island. “Okay, what’s wrong
with you two?”
“Your brother is being a jerk,” I said flatly.
“That’s already been established. What did he do this time?”

“He’s starving a pregnant woman,” I snapped.
Her brows drew together. “What do you
mean?”
“He’s refusing to have sex with me because he’s afraid of harming the baby. That’s what he did.”
Sophia burst out laughing, nearly choking on her coffee.
“It’s not funny,” I shot back. “My hormones are literally not happy right now.
”
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” she said, still grinning. “I just wasn’t expecting that.” She set her mug down. “Then tell him it’s harmless.”
I scoffed. “You think I haven’t? That man is stubborn.”
Sophia tilted her head, eyes gleaming with mischief. “Then seduce him.”
I groaned. “Why didn’t I start there?”
She raised her mug. “Go forth and conquer.”
That night, when the house had gone quiet and Liam was fresh out of the shower, I decided I wasn’t going to wait for him to come to me.
“I’m so warm,” I murmured, tugging at the thin straps of my nightie. “I feel like I need to pour water all over me.”
He glanced over from the bed, brows slightly raised.
I let the nightie slide down my body and puddle at my feet, walking toward the bathroom with nothing on. I didn’t look back, but I could feel his gaze tracking me the whole way.

The cool water kissed my skin, soothing but sparking something else entirely. When I stepped out, droplets trailing down my legs, I didn’t bother to cover myself.
I walked out the same way I’d gone in, naked, aware of the heat in his eyes.
“My waist feels tight,” I said casually, leaning on the edge of the bed. “Could you help? Just a little massage.”
Liam’s jaw shifted. “Lie down.”
I stretched out on my stomach, the sheet cool against my bare skin. His hands were warm, steady at first, kneading slow circles into my waist.
The pressure was perfect, but it was the way his touch lingered, the way his breath gradually grew shallow, that sent heat sliding through me.
I could feel it, the moment his control began to fray. His thumbs pressed deeper, his hands drifting just a little lower than necessary, his movements slower, heavier.
The tension between us thickened until it felt like one wrong move would set everything alight.
And then, he stopped holding back.
“Emily,” he said at last, voice rough. “Are you absolutely sure nothing will happen to the baby if I make love to you?”
Inside, a spark of pure triumph flared.
Mission accomplished.

The Reveal
The morning after, I woke up light, happiness had settled into my bones overnight.
Liam was already awake, propped on his side with his arm resting across my waist like I might roll off the bed without him.
His eyes were soft, but there it was again, that flicker of worry, like he could check the baby’s health with sheer concentration.
“Stop looking at me like that,” I muttered, dragging a fingertip across his chest.
“Like what?”
“Like you’re waiting for me to sneeze wrong so you can call a doctor.
