His Private Chef (by Amycee) novel Chapter 148

I grinned at my own mischief and started counting. One, two, three, four, five..

Bingo My phone rang.

Emily Davis!Lasa’s voice shrieked through the line. I swear to God, if you’re playing with me againwhat baby are you talking about?

I laughed so hard I nearly dropped the phone. I’m pregnant.

The line went dead silent. Then the call ended.

A second later, my screen lit up with a video call request. I answered already laughing.

Her face popped up, wild hair and a messy room in the background. Don’t joke about this, she warned, her voice trembling.

I’m not.I said, still smiling. “I really am.

Stand up. Spin around.

I rolled my eyes but did it anyway, turning slowly even though there wasn’t much to show yet.

When I faced the screen again, Liza’s eyes brimmed with tears. You’re really pregnant.

Yes.My throat thickened.

She screamed, disappeared from the frame, then reappeared, laughing and crying at once, the camera tilting as she ran in circles. When she finally collapsed back into view, breathless, she pressed her face close to the camera.

Tell Sophia this: the best aunt wins. And I’m moving to LA.”

I snorted. “Start with cleaning your room. Practice your aunt skills with basic survival.

Kids thrive in mess, she shot back. Look it up.”

I burst out laughing. God help my baby if you’re the one setting the standards.

The rest of the call was nothing but laughter, Lisa rattling off her outrageous plans for how she’d spoil the baby, me reminding her she’d need to clean her room first.

Chapter 145

I wrapped my arms around him, pressing my cheek to his chest. You’ve done everything you can. I’m proud of you.

But that didn’t stop him from tightening his grip, the tension in his hand betraying the anger he still carried. Cassie had escaped, and holding me close was the only outlet he allowed himself for all that fury.

The doctor’s words had been plenty of rest, but Liam had translated that into house arrest. Meals brought in. Sophia on permanent entertainment duty. A cage built so tight I could barely breathe.

At first, it was sweet. Then it was suffocating.

I even tried to get Sophia on my side, begged her to talk some sense into Liam. But she only doubled down, agreeing with him completely. Which meant I was outnumbered, stuck with the two of them watching me like a fragile glass doll.

I needed air. People. Something beyond the same walls. Finally, I snapped.

Liam,I said one night, glaring at him, if you don’t let me see another human being soon, I’ll stop speaking to you altogether.”

That finally broke through his wall of stubbornness.

The next day, when he came home, he said simply, We’re having guests for dinner. That way you’ll get to talk to someone besides me and Sophia.

I got dressed, excited at the thought of company. But when I walked into the dining room, the excitement drained from me in one swift blow.

Seated at the table were two women, one I recognized instantly. She was the same woman from Liam’s mother’s birthday party, the one I’d pressed the truth out of him about later, when he
