I stormed down the hall and slipped into Sophia’s bed. She cracked an eye open, mumbling, “So Liam annoyed you again. Great. Now I suffer too. I like rolling around in bed, and now I’ve got a pregnant woman beside me.”
A small smile tugged at my lips as her breathing evened out, and she drifted off.
I lay awake, staring at the ceiling. Until my phone buzzed.
It was a message from Liam.
He sent a picture. My favorite drink, snack, and chocolate lined up neatly on the kitchen island. And another picture of himself, looking devastatingly handsome, his caption beneath it:
Pictures of everything you love.
I couldn’t help it, I grinned.
Carefully leaving Sophia’s bed, I moved through the hall and into the kitchen.
Liam was waiting, smiling at me.
I rolled my eyes and snatched the drink from the counter. “I’m still mad at you.”
“I’m sorry,” he said simply. “It was just an interview. No one comes close to you, Em. You’ll always be the most beautiful woman in the world. Even when you’re old and toothless.”
I burst out laughing, and his arms came around me. His mouth brushed my ear first, his voice low, almost a growl.
“Still think I don’t find you attractive? Watch me remind you.”
His mouth found mine in a hungry kiss. When his touch lingered on my breast, a moan escaped before I could stop it.
A throat cleared from the doorway.
I nearly died on the spot.
Laura.

I hid my face in Liam’s chest, flustered
“Isn’t it a little late for you to be awake, Mom?” Liam asked.
“I came to grab a bottle of water. Or is that not allowed anymore?”

Liam didn’t answer. I stayed buried against his chest, while the sound of the refrigerator door opening and closing filled the silence.
Just before she left, Laura called my name.
I reluctantly lifted my head, cheeks burning.
She smiled sweetly. “I just wanted to remind you, you’re kissing a jerk. And at the pace you two are going, you’ll outdo Jay’s record for shameless make–outs under this roof.”
Liam chuckled against my hair. I groaned into his chest.
Twice. She’d caught us kissing twice now.
Way to go, Emily.
I stayed tucked beneath the covers all morning, embarrassed to face Laura after what happened last night. Twice she had walked in on me and Liam, and I knew she’d make sure I never lived it down.
At one point, Sophia poked her head in.
“You okay?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I mumbled. “Just want to sleep some more.”
And I did, falling back into quiet dreams until Liam’s call jarred me awake.
“Em, go tell my father to answer his phone,” he said. His tone was urgent. “I’ve been calling. He’s not picking.”
“Alright,” I said groggily, rubbing my eyes. That was the end of his little speech before he hung
up
Dragging myself out of bed, I made my way downstairs. Laura glanced up the moment she saw me, that smug look spreading across her face just as I’d predicted.
“Where can I find Henry?” I asked quickly, not giving her the opportunity to tease me first.

Her smile only deepened, but she leaned back, satisfied to draw out the pause before answering. “His study
I left her with that smug grin and walked down the hall, past the family portraits The study was at the end, its door closed.
