Chapter 92
“Jason Black, I swear to God, do you even care about business anymore, what the fu…”
Liam.
He stood in the doorway like a scene someone accidentally pressed pause on. His dark shirt clinging to him from the heat of the day, eyes sharp enough to silence the room,
And then he saw me.
Like a punch to the chest, his fury unraveled. The sharp edges in his face softened, confusion flickering, then something deeper- grief, maybe. Or memory. He just stared like I was the one thing he hadn’t prepared himself to see.
Jay muttered under his breath, “Well, shit. Emily just saved my life. Someone give her a cape.” Liam dragged his eyes away from me and turned to Jay. “We need to talk. Now.”
He turned, and Jay dragged himself off the floor, wobbling with tequila–heavy limbs. “Fine, fine, no need to burst a blood vessel.”
They disappeared down the hall. Muffled voices. Low and tense.
Sophia leaned toward me. “You okay?”
I let out a breath. “Not even close.”
Minutes passed. Then Liam stepped out, clearly done trying to reason with a drunk Jay. He glanced at me once, a long, unreadable look, and turned for the door.
I didn’t plan on following. But my feet moved before my thoughts could.
Maybe it was the tequila. Or the weight of every unanswered question inside me.
“Liam,” I called.
He stopped at his car, hand frozen on the handle. Then turned, slowly, like he was afraid of what he’d see.
“Why did you come to my graduation?” I asked.

His eyes searched mine. “Beenuse I wanted to see you.”
“You didn’t want me to know you were there.”
“I didn’t want to make it about me. It was your day.”

“And the gifts? The flowers?” My voice wavered. “You don’t get to keep showing up halfway.”
He stepped closer. Not close enough to touch. But close enough to change the air.
“I missed you, Emily. Every single day. But I didn’t know how to fix what I broke.”
I swallowed hard. “You kissed her. You blew it. You.”
“I didn’t kiss her.” His voice didn’t shake, but his eyes gave him away. “Cassie kissed me. And if you’d come in a second later, you’d have seen me push her off.”
I gave a bitter laugh. “One second too early. Classic.”
Then it all snapped.
“You ignored me, Liam.” My voice cracked, my throat tight with months of silence.
“The texts. The calls. You were in Monaco, smiling for the cameras while I was here, unraveling. Those pictures, how do you think that felt?”
I took a step closer, my hands shaking. “You didn’t think I deserved an explanation? Not even a lie to keep me breathing?”
His voice dropped, rough and low. “I was going to explain everything. I’d planned to. But then I saw you having lunch with Kelvin, I got pissed.”
“So you shut me out?” My chest heaved. “Kelvin is my friend, Liam. You know that.”
“I don’t care if he’s your best friend or your guardian angel. Emily…I’m not built to share you.” His voice dipped, low and raw. “I love you so much I don’t know how to be okay without you. It’s not just wanting you, it’s needing you. And it hurts to breathe when you’re not mine.”
Silence fell between us like a weight.
My arms trembled. My heart unfolded in silence.
He stepped back, dragged a hand through his hair.
“I know I screwed it up,” he said. “I should’ve fought harder. Should’ve told you everything

sooner. But I thought, maybe you needed space. And I was trying to respect that.”
