“No problem.” Lumina set the pillow aside and smiled at Seraphina. “I’ll be back in just a bit.”
She followed Harriet upstairs. As they passed Cedric on the landing, he suddenly reached out and gently squeezed her wrist. “We’re leaving in ten minutes,” he murmured.
Lumina nodded in understanding.
The second floor was much quieter than the bustle below—no staff passing by, just the hush of carpeted halls. It was the perfect place for a private conversation.
Harriet led her into a guest bedroom and handed her a small paper-wrapped package.
“Before you leave tomorrow, find a way to have Cedric take this,” Harriet instructed quietly. “It works like a mild sedative—nothing too strong, but it’ll take time to kick in. The healthier someone is, the slower it acts. Figure about an hour before he starts to feel drowsy.”
Lumina took the packet, her fingers brushing the paper. “Alright,” she replied softly.
Harriet let out a long sigh. “Send me your flight details. I’ll have someone meet you when you land.”
Lumina didn’t hesitate. In a foreign country, she needed all the help she could get, so she took a screenshot of her ticket and showed it to Harriet.
Harriet nodded, satisfied, and turned off her phone. She gave one last warning: “Once you’re gone, don’t come back. You and Cedric will both move on—it’s just a matter of time.”
Lumina’s face betrayed no emotion. She nodded. “Okay.”
Just then, there was a knock on the bedroom door.
Cedric’s calm voice sounded from outside. “Mom, I’m here to take Lumina home.”
Harriet responded, then led Lumina out.
As soon as the door opened, Cedric took Lumina’s hand and drew her to his side, brushing a stray strand of her hair away. “Since when did you two have so much to talk about?”
“She’s practically family now, Cedric. I’m allowed a little girl talk, aren’t I?” Harriet gave her son a knowing smile, then shooed them off. “Go on, it’s getting late. Big day tomorrow—lots to do.”
They left the Royce estate. Cedric guided her into the car and asked, “Back to your apartment?”
Lumina considered for a moment. “Let’s go to your place.”
They were barely a few blocks down the road when Hilton called.
