Nadia put on a playful pout. “Come on, I get it, okay? Is the soup ready or not? I’m starving over here.”
Ten minutes later, Lumina carried the soup and two dishes to the table.
Nadia had been calling for her boyfriend for ages before the boy finally took off his headphones and emerged, moving at a snail’s pace.
He looked every bit the teenage rebel—tall, broad-shouldered, a glinting stud in one ear. He wore a black T-shirt and frayed white jeans, and he had to duck as he stepped out of the bedroom.
Clearly, a round of gaming had left him in a great mood; he looked relaxed, almost glowing with satisfaction.
But as Lumina glanced at his face, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d seen him somewhere before.
“Nadia, this is Keegan Naylor—my roommate, and honestly, the person I’m closest to in Yuria. She’s like a sister to me. Lumina Jones.”
Keegan slouched into his chair and shot Lumina a lazy look that lingered just a moment too long. “Nadia, your roommate’s gorgeous.”
Lumina’s expression barely flickered. She was used to this kind of adolescent teasing—just working at the flower shop for a few weeks, she’d already met half a dozen boys who’d come by pretending to be interested in bouquets, but really just wanted to gawk at her.
Nadia rapped Keegan on the head with her fork. “Quit drooling, you creep.”
Keegan just grinned and let his gaze wander over Lumina’s delicate, pale features.
There was a maturity to her that set her apart from Nadia, and her figure was even more striking. The snug white sweater she wore hugged her curves in all the right places, and that tiny waist could make anyone stare.
Keegan absentmindedly bit down on his fork, eyes glazed, his mind wandering to places it shouldn’t—imagining those curves moving against him, wondering just how wild that would be.
Lumina, well aware of his gaze, said nothing as Nadia served her some food. Quietly, she picked the spicy peppers out of her bowl. “Did you forget? I can’t eat spicy food while I’m pregnant.”
Keegan froze mid-bite, his fantasy shattering. He turned to Nadia, eyes wide. “Pregnant?”
Nadia, oblivious to the hidden message in Lumina’s words—or Keegan’s wandering thoughts—just nodded. “Yeah, Lumina’s almost three months along. You’d never guess it, right? She still looks incredible—doesn’t even look like a mom at all.”
Keegan gave a disgruntled shrug and suddenly the food in his bowl seemed a lot less appetizing. “Soup’s good, but a bit bland. Tastes just like my cousin makes it—totally plain, like he’s sworn off earthly desires or something.”
