His Untamed Rose novel Chapter 138

“Fine, fine, I’ll shut up. I’ll get out of your hair, alright?”

Linus knew better than to keep talking—he always seemed to say the wrong thing. He couldn’t figure out what Cedric really wanted, obsessing over it from afar but stubbornly refusing to see her.

He was done trying to make sense of it. As long as Cedric wasn’t blaming him for what happened with Stella, that was enough. Linus threw on his coat and headed for the door, only to find Winona standing there as he opened it.

She looked delicate and pale, almost fragile, her slender frame tense, eyes cool and steady as they met his.

They weren’t close. Linus just nodded and slipped past her.

Winona stepped into the room, her gaze sweeping over the table, littered with empty glasses and spilled liquor. Her fine brows drew together.

With a sudden swipe, she snatched the drink from Cedric’s hand, her eyes flashing with anger and a flush of red coloring her cheeks. “Enough. Look at yourself. What do you think you’re doing?”

She was usually soft-spoken, but now her voice trembled with rare frustration.

Cedric tilted his head back, his jaw sharp, Adam’s apple shifting, lips twisting into a cold, ambiguous smile. “What do I look like?”

“You look like hell, that’s what. Who are you putting on this show for? Do you really think she cares? She’s too busy wrapped up in someone else’s arms to even notice.”

Winona couldn’t stand the sight of him like this. She dropped her eyes and tried to pull him to his feet.

She tugged several times, but he wouldn’t budge. Instead, with a careless shove, he sent her stumbling back against the glass coffee table, the pile of glasses crashing to the floor.

Cedric’s eyes burned red as he glared at her, not a trace of pity or sympathy in his gaze. “Get out.”

Winona’s shoulders trembled; she bit her lip so hard it almost drew blood, desperate to keep the tears from falling. “You think I want to see you like this? Your father asked me to find you. He wants you to come home.”

For a moment, Cedric sat motionless on the couch. Then, finally, he stirred.

He pushed himself upright, tall frame swaying as the alcohol hit him. It took him a second to steady himself before he shrugged on his coat and left.
