Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 125

Amelia couldn’t help but laugh.

She gazed at Clive—the man she’d loved for so many years, whose face she could once draw from memory with her eyes shut. Now, all she saw was a stranger.

“Why should I be the one to explain things to Grandma?”

Why should she defend the woman who’d walked in and tried to take her child? No way. Amelia was kind, but she wasn’t a doormat.

Clive frowned, looking disappointed. “Amelia, you’re being way too hostile to Ms. Watts. You’ve been gone for years. I couldn’t juggle work and home by myself. She’s the one who stepped up and helped.”

Every word stung like an accusation.

She’d ended up in a coma after a traumatic birth, but in Clive’s eyes, she’d simply been absent—like she’d chosen not to be there, like she was some careless mom. Those five years had felt like torture, but he couldn’t see that at all.

Amelia watched the cigarette burn down in Clive’s hand, the ash falling in quiet little flakes at her feet.

“That’s enough.” She couldn’t listen to him anymore. Her voice was cold as she cut him off. “I’m not saying a single word for Kristen in front of Grandma. What you do is up to you. Don’t expect me to get involved.”

“Amelia, when did you become so bitter?” Clive’s eyes turned frosty.

She didn’t bother responding. What was the point? No matter what she said, it wouldn’t change anything. Clive’s loyalty had already shifted to Kristen.

Amelia turned to leave, but before she could take a step, she saw Penny standing just outside the gazebo, holding her doll tight. It was obvious Penny had heard everything.

Clive’s opinion didn’t matter much to her anymore, but Penny was a different story.

“Penny…” Amelia’s heart clenched as she moved toward her daughter.

But Penny hurled her doll at Amelia, hard.

“Don’t come near me! You’re so mean to Momma Kristen! I hate you!”

Clive might have been annoyed with Amelia, but he wasn’t about to let his daughter disrespect her mother.

He scolded gently, “Penny, don’t talk to your mom like that.”
