When Clive called her over, he’d promised her a surprise.
Turned out, his idea of a “surprise” was just another round of putting her down while hyping up Kristen. The only surprise was how much it stung her and how happy it made Kristen.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Diana sounded genuinely worried.
“Yeah, I’m really fine,” Amelia replied.
She closed the watch box and set it aside, chatting with Diana for a few more minutes until an assistant director popped in on Diana’s end.
“Ms. Bell, we need you on set.”
“Coming,” Diana called back before turning to Amelia. “I have to go. We’re filming all night.”
“No worries, get to work,” Amelia said with a smile.
After the call ended, Amelia rang Diana’s assistant, Miranda, to double-check the shooting location. When she heard Diana would be stuck with night shoots for most of the month, she frowned.
Those late nights could really wear someone down.
“Miranda, is there a herbal pharmacy near the set?”
“Yep, there’s one close by.”
“Perfect. I’ll send you a prescription. Get the pharmacy to brew the medicine and pack it up in portions. Make sure Diana drinks at least one every day.”
“Will do, Amelia. I’ve got it covered.”
After hanging up, Amelia glanced at the watch box. She hesitated, then snapped a few photos and put the watch up for sale online at a huge discount—buyer pays shipping.
That night, Amelia just crashed in the study.
The next morning, when she went downstairs, Clive was already gone.
Donna greeted her. “Mr. Salmeron said he had an early meeting, so he’s skipping breakfast today.”
Amelia just nodded, not really caring.
She turned to Timmy and Penny, who were sitting at the breakfast table. Her expression softened. “Morning, sweethearts.”
Penny looked away, refusing to meet her eyes.
