Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 156

So thin. Even through the light fabric, Amelia could feel the girl’s sharp shoulder bones pressing into her palm.

The girl suddenly winced, sucking in a breath.

At first, Amelia thought she might’ve knocked the girl down too hard. But then she realized—the pain was coming from the exact spot where she was holding her shoulder.

Amelia’s heart sank.

“Hey, sweetheart, are you hurt? Does something hurt?” She kept her voice as soft as possible, not wanting to scare her.

At the word “sweetheart,” the girl’s eyelashes fluttered. She glanced up at Amelia, shy and hesitant.

She was nothing like Penny, who sparkled with energy and looked like a living doll. This girl was skinny, almost fragile, shrinking into herself like she wanted to disappear. Amelia felt like even the smallest noise might make her run.

The girl stared at Amelia’s gentle face, bit her lip, and shook her head.

Amelia smiled and tried to reassure her. “Don’t worry, I’m not a bad person. You’re safe.”

Something in Amelia’s gut told her this girl had been through more than she was letting on.

She pulled out a piece of paper, scribbled her number, and slipped it into the girl’s pocket.

“Sweetheart,” she said, brushing the girl’s cheek with her hand, “if anyone ever gives you trouble, or if you need help and you have no one else, you can always call me. My name’s Amelia Song.”

She was already running late, so after giving the girl another gentle smile, Amelia hurried off.

The girl stood there for a long while. After a bit, she reached into her pocket, pulled out the note, and stared at the phone number written on it. Silently, she committed it to memory.

Amelia drove straight to the office’s underground parking lot. When she got to her usual spot, she found a white BMW parked there—the company car she used to drive, but now it belonged to Kristen.

She circled once and found another spot.

Instead of heading to the R&D department, she went straight to procurement to rush the equipment she needed.

The purchasing manager checked her screen. “Ms. Song, the order’s already in. Salmeron sent a rush request in the middle of the night and we arranged for air shipping. It should arrive the day after tomorrow.”

Amelia was surprised for a second.
