Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 159

The waitress saw only Amelia’s back from across the dining room—same seat, same posture—so of course she thought it was Kristen. She missed the frantic glances the manager was sending her way, and only when she came around to take the order did she get a good look at Amelia’s face. For a second, she just stood there, completely thrown off.

“Manager, isn’t this table reserved all year for Mr. Salmeron? Why—”

Amelia smiled easily. “I’m Clive’s wife. He reserved this table, so I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to sit here.”

The poor waitress looked like she wanted to sink right through the floor. Amelia held out her hand. “Those must be Ms. Watts’s earrings, right? I can give them to her for you.”

With no other choice, the waitress handed over the pearl earrings, mumbling an embarrassed, “Mrs. Salmeron.”

The manager hustled her away, but Amelia still caught a bit of the girl’s muttering. “Wait, isn’t Ms. Watts supposed to be Salmeron’s girlfriend? So he has a wife, too…?”

Amelia glanced down at the earrings in her palm. They were gorgeous, the kind of pearls that clearly cost a fortune.

A few minutes later, Clive showed up.

“Did you look at the menu?” he asked, not really looking at her. “Anything you want?”

Amelia gave him a polite smile. “You know this place better than I do. Order whatever you like.”

Whether it was dinner or anything else, Amelia had always let Clive decide. Even her taste in food had shaped itself around his. Clive didn’t think twice about it—asking her what she wanted was just good manners, nothing more.

He waved over the waiter and rattled off a few of the restaurant’s signature dishes, plus a soup. One of them was beef with bamboo shoots.

Amelia was checking her phone, looking at a file Rachel had sent, when she heard the order. She barely reacted, but her eyes went cold for a second.

She was allergic to bamboo shoots. Clive had forgotten, obviously.

She didn’t bother reminding him. When the food arrived, she didn’t touch the beef dish at all.
