Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 165

Amelia’s expression went ice cold as she gripped her shirt tighter.

If being nice didn’t work, then she couldn’t be blamed for taking a different approach.

Clive’s fingers were already brushing the second button on her blouse when she silently gathered herself, ready to drive her knee right between his legs. But just as she was about to move, Clive’s phone started ringing.

The ringtone wasn’t the usual generic one. Instead, it was Penny’s sweet little voice, singing a nursery rhyme—obviously something he’d recorded himself.

There weren’t many people who could get their own custom ringtone on Clive’s phone. Besides Kristen, Amelia couldn’t think of anyone else.

As expected, the second Clive heard the call, the heat in his eyes disappeared. He didn’t answer right away.

“Go on, don’t work too hard,” he said gently, buttoning her blouse back up and softly brushing her cheek. “Donna’s staying here for a while. If you want a late night snack, just let her know.”

He didn’t mention the unexpected call at all.

Whoever was calling seemed to get the hint. After a few rings, they hung up without trying again.

“Who was that?” Amelia asked, pretending to be curious. “That was Penny’s voice as your ringtone, right? Who’d you set that for?”

Clive’s face didn’t give anything away. “Penny probably changed it when she was playing with my phone. It’s either my mom or Caroline.”

“Oh.” Amelia nodded as if she believed him, even acting a little worried for the caller. “It’s pretty late for your mom or Caroline to call. Maybe it’s urgent. You should call them back.”

She spoke as she walked to the nightstand, reaching for his phone.

But before she could grab it, Clive crossed the room in a few quick steps, stretching his arm out to snag the phone first.
