Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 164

So annoying. If that awful woman hadn’t shown up out of nowhere, she could’ve had a few more minutes with Momma Kristen.

Today, Momma Kristen came to pick her up from school with Dad. Honestly, she felt like the luckiest girl ever. Even Tina and the others were totally amazed. They all agreed—Momma Kristen was hands down the prettiest mom in the whole class. She looked even better in real life than she did in her photos.

If only that awful woman would just disappear. Maybe then Momma Kristen could marry Dad and actually become her mom for real.

Amelia set the glass of milk on Penny’s nightstand. “Penny, finish your milk and remember to brush your teeth, okay? We don’t want any cavities.”

With that, she slipped out of the room and gently closed the door behind her.

Downstairs, she saw the light was still on in Clive’s study. He was probably in there, which honestly was fine by her—she had zero interest in running into him tonight. She figured she’d just sneak into the master bedroom, grab her pajamas and some clothes for tomorrow, and sleep in her own room.

But as soon as she opened the master bedroom door, she saw Clive’s dress pants and shirt tossed over the rack by the bathroom door. She could hear the shower running.

Great. He was in there.

Amelia hurried into the walk-in closet, hoping to grab what she needed and get out before he finished. But just as she stepped back out, arms full of clothes, the shower stopped and Clive walked out of the bathroom.

He was wearing a bathrobe, barely tied at his waist, the collar open enough to show off his chest. Water droplets slid down over his abs.

Clive always kept himself in shape, and it showed. You’d have to be made of stone not to notice.

He paused when he saw Amelia, then glanced at the clothes in her hands. His brow furrowed as he walked over.

“You just got back. Where are you going?” he asked.

The fresh scent of his soap mixed with the heat from his skin, and it washed over her.

They’d been intimate before—they even had a child together. Amelia had once been attracted to him, but now, just being near him made her stomach turn.

She felt disgusting. She couldn’t stop thinking about how he might have held or kissed Kristen today.

Amelia tightened her grip on the clothes she was holding, trying to swallow down the nausea threatening to rise.

But to Clive, she just seemed shy and nervous.
