Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 173

Meanwhile, in the lounge of a downtown business hotel, Clive was sitting with Cameron and Michael, finishing up a business dinner. His phone was just lying out on the table, so when Amelia’s name lit up the screen, everyone noticed.

Clive didn’t even glance at his phone. He looked completely relaxed, sipping his tea like he hadn’t noticed a thing.

Cameron, on the other hand, watched the whole thing like it was his favorite show. He’d never had much respect for Amelia. In his mind, she was manipulative and scheming—she’d done everything she could to marry Clive, and Cameron was sure it was only a matter of time before Clive finally kicked her to the curb.

The phone kept ringing, and Michael looked uncomfortable. “You’re not going to answer?”

Clive just swirled his tea, looking bored. “I’ve been indulging her too much lately. Time to let her cool off.”

He already knew why Amelia was calling—she was after that piece of equipment. He’d done it on purpose, holding back, just to send a message. Kristen’s proposal wasn’t as good as Amelia’s, but if West Medicine was interested, that meant it was good enough. All Clive cared about was landing the partnership, not chasing after perfection.

And, if he was honest, there was something else going on too. He traced the rim of his cup, eyes dark. Amelia had changed lately. She wasn’t always trying to please him anymore, and Clive found that kind of refreshing. Still, she was starting to push her luck, rejecting him again and again.

His grip tightened around the cup, sending silent ripples through the tea. Maybe it was time to remind Amelia that some games just aren’t fun if you take them too far.

The call finally ended.

Cameron snorted. “Just wait—she’ll call back in under three minutes.”

Amelia had always been like this. If she couldn’t get through to Clive, she’d get anxious, like it was the end of the world. If he was upset with her, it was even worse.

Clive didn’t say anything, but he left his phone on the table, glancing at it every now and then.

But ten minutes went by, and there was still no second call.

Cameron raised an eyebrow. “Huh. Did she finally change her ways?”

Clive lit a cigarette, his face clouded by smoke and something darker.

Finally, the screen lit up again. This time, it was Amelia on the company chat—six messages in a row.

Clive’s frown relaxed a little as he opened the app.

Cameron couldn’t help sneering. “Didn’t take her long to drop the act. Ten minutes of pretending, then she’s back to her old self.”
