Amelia caught Cameron’s reflection in the glossy black marble across from her. He was reaching out, but she was already at her limit. She spun and slapped his arm away, hard enough to leave a vivid red mark on his wrist.

Cameron’s temper snapped, but before he could say a word, Amelia’s voice cut in, cool and sharp.

“You know, Cameron, sometimes I actually feel sorry for you.” She looked at him like he was nothing but a sad joke.

He froze, anger flickering across his face. “And you think you’re better than me?” he shot back, his voice tight.

She didn’t even hesitate. “Let’s be honest. You’ve been hung up on Kristen for years. She keeps you dangling, and you’re so desperate you can’t even admit it to yourself. You want to chase after her, but you’re terrified she’ll turn you down. So instead, you take it out on me, picking on me like it’ll somehow make you look like her hero. Do you really think you’re Kristen’s knight in shining armor? Please.”

Amelia let out a laugh, cold and mocking.

For years, Cameron had looked down on her, not because she’d done anything wrong, but because he needed someone to punish on Kristen’s behalf. That was it. That was all.

Cameron’s hand curled into a fist at his side, his face darkening as he stepped closer, his words strained and threatening. “Amelia Song, shut your mouth.”

She just stared back, unbothered, almost amused by how mad he was getting.

“What’s wrong, Cameron? Thinking about hitting a woman now?”

There was a security camera directly above them. If he laid a finger on her, she’d call the cops without a second thought.

Amelia didn’t care anymore. She had nothing to lose. The worst they could say was she embarrassed the Salmeron family, and honestly, that sounded like a win. All she’d ever been was Mrs. Salmeron in name.

But Cameron wasn’t like her. He had a reputation to keep, the only heir to the Henson family, respected by everyone, no matter which side of the law they were on. If he got caught hitting a woman, it’d make headlines for days.
