She went through the slides one more time, making a mental note of what still needed trimming. If she could put together a simpler, cleaner version of the presentation tomorrow, the whole thing would finally be finished.
In just two days, she’d be at West Medicine, meeting the legendary Ryan everyone talked about.
The thought of Mr. Ryan Packman made Amelia more than a little curious. He was a mystery—an illegitimate son hidden away overseas for years, suddenly showing up and taking over West Medicine, a company everyone said was impossible to crack. There was no way Mr. Ryan Packman was some ordinary guy.
Just then, she heard a car pull up outside.
Amelia walked to the window and peeked out. Clive was back, and Timmy and Penny were with him.
She almost went downstairs to see the kids, but the memory of them sitting in Clive’s office with Kristen earlier—so close and cozy, like a real family—put a damper on her mood.
She didn’t want to see Clive. Honestly, she didn’t even want to talk to him.
So, she sat back down at her laptop, deciding she’d wait until just before bedtime to go say goodnight to the twins.
Downstairs, Clive spotted Amelia’s shoes by the door as he put away his own. His expression changed, a little darker, and he glanced up at Donna, who was walking over to help the kids with their backpacks.
“When did Amelia get home?” he asked.
“It’s been a little over an hour,” Donna replied.
Clive didn’t say anything, but the mood around him definitely shifted—he seemed colder, more distant.
He pulled off his tie, and right then, his phone rang. Kristen’s name flashed on the screen.
Clive took the call out on the terrace.
Meanwhile, Donna took Timmy and Penny to the kitchen to wash their hands.
