Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 327

Amelia: “...”

Elsewhere.

In a private dining room at a restaurant.

Dr. Wade was picking up the tab tonight. The Vice President had already left, leaving behind two senators as stand-ins.

Ryan stayed too—after all, the dinner was basically for him.

He picked the farthest seat in the corner, away from the spotlight. His phone wasn’t on the table but hidden below, where he was quietly tapping out a message.

He saw Amelia had replied with a meme: a little cartoon guy, bowing with a cup of tea in both hands.

Ryan couldn’t help but smile, his mood instantly better.

Right now, Dr. Wade was looking at Ryan like he was a living lucky charm. Seeing Ryan smile, Dr. Wade jumped up to pour him a drink personally.

“Mr. Packman, let’s have a toast. Thank you and your family for everything you’ve done for our country!”

Ryan knew the drill. He stood up, glass in hand, making sure to keep his glass lower than Dr. Wade’s out of respect.

“Dr. Wade, you’re too generous. It’s scholars like you and your generation who are the true backbone of this country.”

Dr. Wade’s eyes crinkled with happiness. “Mr. Packman, you’re not just good-looking—you know how to say all the right things.”

Francisco, sitting nearby, nearly choked back a laugh. In his mind he thought, That’s probably the nicest thing Ryan’s said all year.

Ryan and Dr. Wade made small talk for a bit.

Then Ryan suddenly switched gears.

“By the way, Dr. Wade, I bumped into Amelia when I got here. You two are pretty close?” He took a casual sip of wine, sounding offhand.

Dr. Wade couldn’t hold his liquor. After a couple rounds with the senators and another with Ryan, he was definitely tipsy.

He raised his glass. “Amelia? Oh, Jared’s still mad at her. I keep trying to get her to join my project—she’s brilliant! I mean, I’m not mad at her, so why not?”
