She used to bend over backwards trying to win over Clive’s friends, desperate for them to accept her. No matter how hard she tried, it was all pointless in the end.
She still remembered Cameron’s birthday one year. Amelia had noticed he looked pale and tired, so she carefully put together a blend of herbs to help with his health. She even spent a whole week turning them into easy-to-take pills, packing each one by hand.
On the day of his birthday party, she’d handed them to him herself.
Cameron’s expression was hard to read. He took the pills with a half-hearted smile and said, “Well, that’s thoughtful.”
But when Amelia left, she saw those pills tossed in the trash by the door.
Her first reaction was hurt, her chest tight with disappointment. She even wondered if maybe her gift had been wrong in the first place.
Now, looking back, Amelia just thought she’d been hopelessly naive. If she could go back in time, she’d dump the whole trash can right over Cameron’s head.
Amelia pushed her sunglasses up, her face cold and unreadable.
She didn’t even want Clive anymore—she sure as hell didn’t care about his friends. As far as she was concerned, they could all stay far away from her.
Aiden greeted them politely. “Mr. Henson.”
Cameron gave Aiden a nod, but his gaze landed on Amelia as she walked up, tapping her white cane. Disdain flickered in his eyes.
This woman was unbelievable. Even like this, she still had the nerve to show up at Clive’s office and cling to him.
He was sure she’d do what she always did—put on that meek smile and try to start some awkward small talk.
Cameron made up his mind to ignore her and let her embarrass herself.
Cameron was left standing there, at a loss for words.
Aiden noticed and held the elevator door. “Mr. Henson, aren’t you coming?”
Cameron’s jaw tightened as he stared at Amelia in the elevator. He forced out, “No, I just remembered I left something in Salmeron’s office.”
The doors slid shut, cutting off the sight of Amelia’s cool, distant face.
Cameron felt a knot of frustration in his chest. Scowling, he pulled out his phone and fired off a message to Clive:
Cameron: After five years in a coma, is Amelia dealing with anything besides her eyesight? Is there something wrong with her head too? Because honestly, she’s not acting normal.
