Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 49

Tara didn’t hesitate—she went to grab the acupuncture kit right away. She’d seen firsthand just how good Amelia was with medicine.

Mrs. Salmeron, the family matriarch, held on tight to Amelia’s hand, her voice trembling as she asked about Amelia’s eyes. Amelia explained again, gently, that it was just temporary. Only then did the old lady finally relax a little.

Amelia helped her settle back onto the chaise lounge and started checking her pulse.

“Amelia…” Mrs. Salmeron looked at her, trying to find the right words, clearly torn. After a long pause, she finally blurted out, a little awkward, “You… you heard what I said earlier, didn’t you?”

Instant regret flashed across her face. She wished she could take her words back.

But Amelia stayed calm. “Grandma, you mean Ms. Watts? Clive’s secretary, Kristen? I know her. She used to be my assistant.”

Mrs. Salmeron grumbled under her breath, “Why does a man need a young, pretty secretary anyway? Clive has a whole team of assistants. He could replace her just like that! I never liked Ms. Watts—she pretends to be sweet, but there’s something shifty about her. Always looks sly, always putting on a show.”

Amelia couldn’t help but laugh. Grandma had always been sharp.

But when Amelia felt how weak the old lady’s pulse was, she didn’t want her worrying at her age—not over something like this.

She knew Mrs. Salmeron truly cared about her. But Clive was her grandson, her own flesh and blood. Amelia really didn’t want to drag her into all these messy things.

“Grandma, please don’t worry. Clive and I are fine, honestly. When I was in the hospital, Clive was busy with work, so he asked Ms. Watts to help take care of Timmy and Penny. But now that I’m home, we won’t need her help anymore.”

Mrs. Salmeron didn’t look reassured at all. In fact, she seemed even more worried.

“Oh, you silly girl,” the old lady sighed, her voice full of love and frustration. “You’re too trusting. You love Clive so much, you believe everything he says. But men—well, you have to watch out! Clive’s such a catch. There are plenty of women out there just waiting for a chance to take your place!”

Amelia just listened quietly, her expression soft and calm, a gentle smile on her lips.

She’d just finished when the butler, Lee, hurried in, looking anxious.

“Ma’am, please come to the living room right away! Ms. Salmeron has something urgent to discuss with you. Everyone’s waiting!”

Amelia understood immediately. So they were finally bringing up the ‘stolen’ diamond bracelet.

“Okay, I’ll be right there.”

Mrs. Salmeron wanted to go too, but Amelia gently stopped her. “Grandma, you just had acupuncture. You shouldn’t be up and about. Please rest. I’ll come visit you again in a few days.”

With that, she picked up her cane and made her way out.

Mrs. Salmeron gave Tara a meaningful look. Tara immediately understood and quietly followed after Amelia.
