Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 66

Amelia’s fall was no joke. She sat on the couch for a good while, catching her breath and trying to ignore the throbbing pain. A dark bruise was already forming on her arm, but the real trouble was her left ankle, which sent a sharp ache shooting up her leg every time she tried to move it.

She stood up, testing her weight on the injured foot. Pain flared instantly—definitely more than just a twist. She’d have to deal with the swelling herself, maybe even break out her acupuncture kit.

Marian, who always managed to sound a little too formal, chimed in from nearby. “Mrs. Hayes, should I call the family doctor?”

Amelia was about to say no—being a doctor herself—but then the doorbell rang, cutting her off.

Marian went to answer it. When she opened the door and saw who was standing there, her eyes went wide. “Dr. Reed? What are you doing here?”

On the doorstep stood Dr. Adrian Reed, their family doctor, medical bag in hand and trademark black-rimmed glasses perched on his nose.

Marian looked confused. She hadn’t called anyone.

Dr. Reed adjusted his glasses, calm as ever. “Timmy messaged me. Said the lady of the house had a fall and asked me to come check on her.”

Amelia heard every word from the living room. She ducked her head and let out a quiet laugh. Suddenly, her ankle didn’t hurt quite so much.

Dr. Reed stepped inside, shouldering his medical bag, and glanced over at the woman sitting on the couch.

Amelia was in her lounge clothes, hair loose and tumbling forward, half-hiding her face. Dr. Reed didn’t get a clear look at her. Amelia and Kristen were about the same height, both with dark hair—he just assumed it was Kristen.

“Ms. Watts, where did you get hurt?” he asked, already setting his bag down like he’d done it a hundred times. “And where’s Mr. Hayes? Why’d Timmy send the message instead?”
