A name shot through Caroline’s mind like a lightning bolt.
Diana.
John had already used her moment of distraction to slip into the elevator. By the time Caroline snapped out of it and hurried after him, the doors had closed, cutting her off like she was contagious.
Fuming, she spun around, dug out her phone, and called her contact.
“You said John was obsessed with some actress, right? Is it Diana—the one who just won that international award?”
The answer was a definite yes. Suddenly, everything made sense. Caroline’s perfect features twisted in anger.
Of course. It had to be Amelia. That woman must’ve found out about the video somehow and run straight to Diana to play the victim.
Diana and Amelia were close—so close that when Amelia married Clive, Diana was her only bridesmaid.
And John? He was Diana’s number one fan.
Caroline clenched her jaw so hard it hurt. Diana must’ve gone to John to defend Amelia, probably trashing Caroline in the process. No wonder she’d lost the Aurora Games deal.
“Amelia!” Caroline hissed under her breath. “Just wait. I’ll show you what happens when you mess with me.”
She stormed out of the InterContinental, heels pounding against the floor, and called Clive. The second he answered, she launched into her act, tears in her voice. “Clive, Amelia’s ruined everything for me…”
But halfway through her complaint, she stopped cold.
Across the street, Amelia was coming out of a restaurant, walking alongside a woman with a scarf wrapped around her face. They were laughing together, perfectly at ease.
That witch. She’d cost Caroline a huge deal and now dared to parade her happiness right where Caroline could see.
