Marian was just stepping into the foyer when she heard those words. She spun around, convinced she must’ve misheard.
“Mrs. Salmeron, what are you talking about?” Marian’s voice shook with disbelief as she hurried back, switching straight into victim mode. “I’ve worked here for two years—always bending over backwards for this family. How could you—”
Amelia didn’t even bother to respond. She simply pulled out her phone, tapped the screen, and held it up for Marian to see.
Marian frowned, puzzled, and glanced at the video. Her heart dropped. There she was, caught on camera, sneaking ingredients out of the kitchen over the past few days.
The shocked, innocent look on her face froze, then morphed into something twisted.
“Anything else you want to say?” Amelia asked, lounging on the sofa with her head propped up on one hand. Her tone was calm, but there was no mistaking who was in charge. Even her soft voice carried a force that made Marian feel small.
Marian’s hands balled into fists, her expression darkening. She didn’t say a word—just stormed into the kitchen and started tearing the place apart. After a frantic search, she finally found a tiny camera hidden deep in a corner, barely bigger than her thumb.
She squeezed it tight, seething. “So this is where you hid it!”
There hadn’t been any cameras before Amelia came back. She must’ve put them in herself. And Marian, who was in and out of that kitchen all day, hadn’t noticed a thing. The hiding spot was genius… but how could a blind woman have managed that?
“I knew it. You’re not really blind, are you?” Marian marched back into the living room and threw the camera onto the coffee table in front of Amelia. Her voice trembled with rage. “I’m going to tell Mr. Salmeron everything. You manipulative liar—you’ve been faking it all along!”
Amelia just chuckled, raising an eyebrow. “And you, a housekeeper caught stealing, think you can outsmart the lady of the house? Where did you get that kind of nerve?”
Marian’s eyes flashed with a hint of triumph. She opened her mouth to retort, but Amelia cut her off.
“It’s Kristen, isn’t it?”
