Married to Mafia Boss novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Aria’s POV

Aría, how are the Miller accounts coming along?Antonio Ricci appeared beside my desk, coffee in hand. His friendly smile momentarily made me forget the morning’s whispers.

I glanced at my computer. The preliminary analysis is almost done. Should be finished by the end of the day.

Antonio leaned on my desk and lowered his voice. You look tired. I’ll have Tina handle the quarterly report instead. She has more expérience with them

anyway.

Before I could protest, Tina appeared as if summoned by her name, tapping her manicured nails against her tablet as she assessed me.

Always looking out for Aria, aren’t you, Antonio?she said with a bitter smile. Always playing the hero, aren’t you?

Antonio straightened, glancing at me. Tina, I’m not showing favoritism, just allocating work efficiently.

Right, Tina snorted, efficiency. Like how I handled the Miller project for two years, but you efficiently gave it to Aria?

I cleared my throat, uncomfortable at being the subject of their argument. I’m perfectly capable of handling my workload. Both of you should get back to work. Company matters are Mr. Vittorio’s responsibility, not ours to worry about.

Antonio gave me a curious look, then nodded and walked away. Tina lingered a moment longer, eyes narrowed suspiciously, before returning to her desk.

On the top floor of Cortés Tech, Marco sat behind his imposing desk while his assistant Giulio delivered the morning briefing.

Sir, everything has been communicated as per your instructions,Giulio reported. As you suggested, we’ll let Gabriel enjoy his moment for now.

Marco’s fingers drummed on the polished desktop. It’s not enough. His gaze fell on a monitor showing surveillance footage of my business department. The cancellation of Project Phantom is affecting Aria significantly. Her workstation needs to be relocated to my private office.

Giulio and Luca, standing by the window, exchanged knowing glances.

If I may, sir,Giulio said carefully, wouldn’t that bring unnecessary attention to your wife? After yesterday’s Project Phantom cancellation, many colleagues are already questioning her.

Marco’s expression remained impassive. I don’t need to explain my decisions to the staff. Make it happen immediately.

Luca stepped forward. I’ll arrange it right away.

By lunchtime, an internal email had circulated throughout the company.

My heart turned over when Luca’s companywide email announced my appointment as the CEO’s exclusive executive assistant, effective immediately, and that I would no longer handle any business department responsibilities.

The office buzzed with speculation. Female employees cast strange glances my way, whispering without bothering to hide their comments:

Look at her, promoted after just three months

I wonder what she did to catch the president’s attention

Have you seen how Mr. Vittorio looks at her?

I clutched my phone tightly, resisting the urge to text Marco immediately. What was he thinking? This would only make things worse, making me and us

more conspicuous.

Through the glass partition, I saw Luca speaking with our business department manager, Berli

Luca’s expression was serious as he nodded. After a while, Berti gazed thoughtfully at me through the office winders.

I pretended not to notice, focusing intently on my computer screen while my thoughts raced. Berti had always been fair but distanta perferi pintasalmeial who valued results above all else.

watched me work, contemplating how my presence over the past three months had affected the department dynamics. My efficiency, my ability to remain calm, my skill at solving problems without drawing attentionall qualities that, given time, might threaten her position.

Now, Mr. Vittorio wanted me transferred directly to his office.

Berti tapped her pen against the desk, a smile forming on her face. This transfer would not only help her eliminate a potential future competitor but also please the CEO. From her perspective, it was a winwin situation.

She picked up the phone to call me into her office.

Ms. Berti, may I come in?I asked, standing at her office doorway.

Berti gestured to the chair across from her desk. Sit down, Aria. I’ve just received notification from Luca that you’ll be reassigned as Mr. Vittorio’s exclusive executive assistant. You’ll need to move your things by the end of the day.

I sat down, struggling to maintain a neutral expression. Ms. Berti, I’ve been interning in the business department for three months now, and I really enjoy the work environment here

This isn’t a negotiation,Berti interrupted, her tone gentle but firm. The decision has been made at the highest level. If you have concerns, I suggest you discuss them directly with Ms. Luca.

I nodded slowly, understanding I was being dismissed. Back at my desk, I took out my phone and texted Marco:

Marco, I want to continue my internship in the business department.

I waited for a reply, but my phone remained silent. Perhaps he was in a meeting, or perhaps he wanted to keep me close to prevent further confrontations with Red Scorpion representatives. Given yesterday’s incident with Gabriel, I could hardly blame him.

In his office, Marco stared at my text message, his expression unconsciously softening.

After yesterday’s violent incident, Marco wanted me closer to him.

Sir?Giulio’s voice interrupted his thoughts. Shall I proceed with arranging Mrs. Vittorio’s new workstation?

Marco shook his head slightly. No, cancel the transfer. Aria will remain in the business department.

Both Giulio and Luca looked at him in surprise. Marco Vittorio never changed his mind once a decision was made.

Are you certain, sir?Luca asked cautiously.

Marco’s tone left no room for discussion. My wife has the right to decide her own work arrangements.
