Chapter 127
Raven Pov
“No, Matthew,” I whispered, my voice shaking slightly as I stared into his determined eyes.
I would rather not start something with you that I am sure won’t last. “It’s not as easy as you say it is. If he, if Alpha Ethan finds out… if he finds out that I’m his mate, he would do anything to get me back.”
I know him he won’t allow that why he isn’t fighting that he’s now is because he doesn’t know. I’m sure if he knows he wouldn’t mind going extra just for me to be with him. Matthew didn’t flinch. His jaw clenched, his eyes intense, but steady.
“I don’t fucking care, Raven,” he said, his voice low but sharp like a blade slicing through silence. “I don’t care. I want you. And that is all that matters.
His words struck me like a slap and a balm at the same time. I blinked, my throat dry. The air between us was thick and charged. He was standing so close, yet I felt a thousand miles away, tangled between my mind, my heart, and the cursed pull of the mate bond.
“You say that now, but you don’t understand how strong the mate bond is,” I said bitterly, forcing myself to take a step back.
“It… it pulls you in, and then it breaks you, piece by piece. It makes you crave the very hands that hurt you. It makes you dream of the arms that bruised you.”
“I know you’re afraid,” he murmured gently. “But you don’t have to be. Not with me.”
I let out a breathless laugh, bitter and tired. “That’s just it, Matthew. I am afraid. I’m scared that no matter how good you are, how kind, how patient… my heart might still belong to the monster who made me bleed.”
His expression softened, and for a second, I saw the pain in his eyes the pain of knowing that I was still tethered to another man by something beyond our control. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair from my face.
“I understand,” he said quietly. “I really do.”
I looked up at him, surprised.
“That’s why I want to make a deal.”
“A deal?” I repeated, blinking.
He nodded and took a deep breath, his thumb grazing the side of my jaw. “Four months. Just four months. We’ll live together.
Like a couple. We’ll act as if we’re together. But I promise I won’t touch you, I will wait for you until you are comfortable with me. I want to show you that! am not interested in your body but your heart. I won’t even kiss you unless you want me to.”
I stared at him, my brows drawing together. “You want us to pretend?”
“No,” he said firmly. “Not pretend. Just… explore the possibility. I want you to know what it feels like to be loved without conditions, without pain.
And if, by the end of those four months, you fall in love with me, you will have to reject Ethan, and I will mark you as my mate, but if not… He paused, and I could see how hard it was for him to say the next words.
“…then I’ll let you go. I will not bother you anymore, and I will wait for my fated mate… even if she never comes.”
Tears burned the corners of my eyes. I looked away, trying to make sense of the whirlwind of emotions inside me.
Could I do it?
Could I really give someone else a chance to love me… while my heart still mourned the man who tore it apart?

Chapter 127
I was quiet for a long time. Minutes passed in stillness, broken only by the soft rustle of the wind outside the window and the muffled beat of my heart.
My thoughts swirled with memories of Alpha Ethan’s touches, both gentle and cruel.
Of the nights I spent crying myself to sleep, and the brief moments when his eyes held something human in them.
But also of Matthew’s warmth, his laughter, and the way he always looked at me like I was worth something.
And yet… my heart still ached for the one who broke me.
“I don’t know if I can do this,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “the bond, it’s strong. Stronger than I imagined. And I… I don’t think I can handle it?
Matthew gently placed his hands on my shoulders and leaned in, his forehead touching mine.
“I know,” he said softly. “That’s why I’m not asking for forever. I’m just asking for a chance.”
I took in a shaky breath and let it out slowly.
He was offering me safety. A choice. Something Alpha Ethan never gave me.
And I deserved to be loved even if it wasn’t from my mate, and even though I knew the time was coming close when the spell would be broken.
