Chapter 139

Chapter 139

Raven’s POV

I walked out of the cell, my heart pounding heavily in my chest as Olivia’s bitter threat replayed in my mind.

What if she escapes?I thought. What if she comes back and actually hurts me?

But then my wolf stirred inside me, calm and certain.

She won’t,my wolf whispered gently. She’s just making you mad. Trying to stir fear in you. You’ve endured worse, Raven. Thisthis is nothing. She’s powerless now.

I sighed, letting that inner comfort wash over me for a moment. My hand still trembled slightly as I walked down the hallway, but my wolf’s voice gave me enough strength to keep going.

I’m fine,I whispered aloud to myself. She’s just trying to scare me. That’s all.”

I stopped by the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water, trying to calm my nerves. The coolness against my palm grounded me, and I uncapped it, taking a deep gulp. I hadn’t realized how dry my throat had been. As the water slid down, I leaned back against the counter and closed my eyes for a moment.

Everything was changing so fast. The tides between Alpha Ethan and me had shifted, and now even Olivia, the person who once seemed untouchable, was behind bars in a dirty cell. A tiny part of me pitied her. But another part one that remembered the pain she inflicted didn’t feel sorry at all.

As I returned to the servant quarters, I glanced around. I hadn’t really thought about relocating to a better room. But maybe I should. I deserved something better. Something warmer and less claustrophobic.

Maybe I’d tell Alpha Ethan. He wouldn’t say no. Not now. Not when he was doing everything possible to win me back, even if I was still unsure of what that truly meant.

He had destroyed me, yet a part of me… still loved him. I hated it. I hated how much control he still had over my emotions

even after everything.

I approached my room, lost in thought, and pushed open the door. Then I nearly spat the water out of my mouth.

There, right in the middle of the room, stood Beta Matthew.

He wasn’t just standing. He was kneelingwith one leg on the ground, and in his hands was a ring.

My heart skipped, my brain stopped, my wolf growled in confusion.

WWhat are you doing here?I stammered, lowering the bottle slowly, blinking as if I could erase the image.

He smiled nervously, eyes flickering with a vulnerability I’d never seen in him before. I wanted to surprise you,” he said.

Today marks the third month sinceour deal. Since everything changed. And, Raven, I see the way you act around me. I see the way your eyes soften, even when you try to hide it. I know you’re in love with me. And I’m in love with you too.

He extended the ring further.

I want to make you mine.

The world spun. My throat dried again. My wolf went completely still.

I didn’t move. I didn’t even breathe.

A proposal?

This this would have made me happymonths ago. Before everything, before Alpha Ethan.

Matthew was kind, sweet and he had seen the broken pieces of me and never turned away. When I was bleeding, he cleaned my wounds. When I cried, he held me like I mattered. There was no pain in his love, no threats, no manipulation.

I should have wanted this.

But I couldn’t lie to myself.

Even though Alpha Ethan had hurt me in ways I couldn’t forget even though he had broken me in places I was still trying to heal a part of me still loved him. I didn’t want to. But I did.

I had imagined a future once, a soft one. A dream of waking up next to Alpha Ethan, his hand on my belly swollen with pups. Of laughter and forgiveness. Of warmth replacing the cold between us.

I knew it was foolish. But hopehope had a way of creeping back in, no matter how many times it was crushed.

Raven?

Matthew’s voice jolted me back. He was still kneeling, ring in hand, his brows furrowed in confusion. What’s your answer?

I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think.

I..I don’t knowI whispered, my voice barely audible. Panic bloomed in my chest. I couldn’t stand there. I couldn’t look

at him, at that ring, at what it meant. Not when my heart was tearing in two.

Without another word, I turned and ran.

I didn’t wait to see his expression. I didn’t want to see the disappointment or the pain. I needed air. I needed space. I

needed time to think.

I raced down the hallways, blindly passing by confused servants and startled guards. The chill of the night air greeted me as I stepped outside the servant quarters, my breath coming out in shudders.

What was I doing?

Matthew deserved someone who could love him with her whole heart. Someone who wasn’t haunted by a t

bond or bleeding scars from the past. Someone who wasn’t me.

I found a quiet bench under a willow tree near the gardens and sat down heavily, burying my face in my hands.

Tears slipped through my fingers.

Chapter 139

My wolf whined softly.

You ran,she said. He was offering you something real. And you ran.

I’m confused,I whispered.
