“Raven, you are called to the manager’s office,” Sofia told me the moment I stepped through the club’s doors.

Her tone was casual, but the words made my stomach tighten. I froze, staring at her for a second. “The manager? What for?” I asked quickly.

She shrugged, wiping her hands on the towel slung over her shoulder. “I don’t know.

But he asked for you directly. You better hurry before he gets angry.”

I swallowed hard, trying to steady my breathing. I hadn’t done anything wrong… at least, nothing that I could think of.

I had been careful, always coming on time, working my shifts without complaint, and keeping my head down. In fact, the club was the only place where I still felt like I had a shred of control over my life. Losing it wasn’t something I could even imagine.

As I walked down the hallway toward his office, my heart pounded harder with every step. The sound of laughter and glasses clinking in the background felt muffled compared to the thunder in my chest. When I finally reached the door, I knocked lightly.

“Come in,” his voice said from inside.

I pushed the door open, and there he was sitting behind his desk, his glasses low on his nose, his face unreadable. He gestured for me to sit.

I hesitated before sliding into the chair opposite him, my palms already sweaty. “Did I… did I do something wrong?” I asked softly.

He didn’t answer. Instead, he reached for a brown envelope on the desk and pushed it toward

My hand shook as I reached for it. Something about the way he avoided my eyes told me this was bad. My chest tightened as I tore the flap open and pulled out the paper inside.

The words stared back at me like knives–Termination of Employment.

I blinked rapidly, my throat tightening. “What… what is this?” My voice cracked as I looked up at him. “What did I do wrong?”

He sighed, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk as if he hated being the one to say it.

“I got a report from the doctor…” His eyes met mine for the first time, filled with a mixture of pity and resolve. “You’re pregnant.”

The room tilted for a second. My breath caught in my throat. “And what if I am?” I asked, my voice rising in disbelief. “What does that have to do with me being sacked?”

“You can’t continue working in your condition,” he said firmly, though his eyes softened. “It’s risky for you, and for the club as well. We can’t take responsibility if anything happens to you.”

Tears stung my eyes. I clenched the letter in my fists, crumpling the paper. “But I can work! Please, this is all I have. Don’t take this away from me.”

He leaned back in his chair and shook his head. “I’m sorry, Raven. I can’t go against the club’s rules.”

It felt like the floor had been pulled out from under me. My body went cold as I stood, my knees wobbling beneath me.

Somehow, I forced myself to walk out of the office. The sound of laughter and music hit me again, but it was distant hollow, as though the world was mocking me.

By the time I reached outside, the air felt too heavy to breathe. My feet dragged along the pavement as I muttered under my breath, “I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought keeping this child was the good choice… but now it’s cost me my job.”

The tears spilled before I could stop them, streaking hot down my face. I wiped them furiously, but they kept coming. People passed me on the street, barely sparing a glance, and I hated that part of me wished someone would ask if I was okay.

When I reached my small apartment, I collapsed onto the chair, my body trembling with exhaustion and despair. My eyes fell on my phone. There was only one person I could call Matthew.

I dialed his number, my hands shaking so badly I almost dropped the phone. He answered on the second ring. “Raven? Are you alright?”

The concern in his voice cracked something in me. “Matthew, I… I lost my job,” I whispered. “They found out I’m pregnant.”

Silence filled the line for a moment, and then his voice came, low and sharp. “Who is responsible, Raven?”

A bitter laugh escaped me. “Don’t be dumb. You know it’s Alpha Ethan’s child. And now… now I’ve lost the only thing I had left.”

His breathing was heavy through the receiver. “Does he know?”
