I woke up to an unfamiliar environment. It was nothing like Beta Matthew’s apartment or the small, cramped room I usually slept in back at the pack house.
The air felt cleaner, the sheets smoother against my skin, and there was a faint smell of antiseptic that stung my nose. My eyelids were heavy, but I forced them open.
Bright white walls met my gaze, and the soft beeping of a monitor followed with every faint movement of my chest.
My throat was dry, my body weak, and my head pounded like someone had been striking a drum inside it. I groaned softly and tried to move, but the weight pressing down on me made it difficult.
When I shifted, a sharp pain shot through my skull, and I winced, clutching my temples.
“What… happened?” I whispered to no one in particular.
For a moment, my thoughts were scattered, floating like broken pieces of glass, sharp but hard to gather. Slowly, images began to form. I remembered walking out of the building after my interview, my heart pounding with hope, though also burdened with fear about the future. I remembered crossing the street.
Then blinding headlights, a screech of tires, and the shattering sound of my body colliding with metal.
I gasped as realization struck me. “The car…”
I forced myself to move, my hand trembling as I reached down toward my stomach. My heart thumped wildly as my palm rested on the slight swell.
“Please…” I choked out, my eyes burning with tears. “Please don’t let me lose you.”
I had endured so much already. I had been cast aside, unloved, accused, and broken in ways I couldn’t even
name.
But through it all, this pregnancy had been my last flicker of hope. The thought that a life grew within me kept me moving, even when I had nothing left. If that hope was gone if the baby was gone I didn’t know how I would survive.
I swallowed hard, my throat dry and scratchy. With a shaky breath, I let my eyes sweep the room. The sterile white paint, the metal trolley by the bed filled with bandages and tools, the faint humming of machines it didn’t take long to realize I was in a hospital.
But how did I get here?
My brows furrowed as I tried piecing it together, Was it the man who had hit me? The thought sent a shiver down my spine,
My wolf stirred inside me, restless but weak.

Chapter 191
“Do you think… he brought us here?” I whispered.
:
No answer came, just the hollow echo of my own question.

Just then, the door opened, creaking softly, and I flinched. My heart raced until I saw who it was a woman in a
nurse’s uniform.
She was older, with streaks of gray in her hair, her face kind but lined with years of experience.
Her eyes widened in relief the moment she saw me awake. “Oh, thank goodness!” she exclaimed, hurrying to my side. “You’re awake at last.”
I swallowed hard, still weak, and tried to form words. “Am I… okay?” My voice cracked, desperation seeping through every syllable. “Are my babies okay?”
Her eyes softened as she set her hand gently over mine. “Calm down, dear,” she said soothingly. “Everything is fine. The babies are safe.”
Tears blurred my vision. I hadn’t realized how tightly I had been holding my breath until her words released it all. Relief washed over me so heavily I almost sobbed.
“They’re fine?” I whispered again, needing reassurance.
She nodded with a warm smile. “Yes. You and your little ones are safe.
You’ve been unconscious for almost a week now, but your strength is returning. It will take time, but you’re going to be fine.”
A week? My eyes widened. I had lost a whole week of my life. A week of lying motionless, my fate uncertain, my children’s lives hanging by a fragile thread.
I bit my lip, gathering courage before asking, “Who… who brought me here?”
The nurse hesitated, as though unsure how much to tell me. Finally, she said, “You were brought in by a passerby and a young man who was also injured. They both insisted on helping you.”
“A young man?” My heart skipped. “What happened to him? Is he okay?”
Her eyes softened again. “He was discharged yesterday. He’s recovering well. And… he promised he would come to see you. He seemed very concerned about you.”
I blinked, my chest tightening. “Was he… the one driving the car?”
She nodded gently, “Yes, dear. He was the owner of the car that hit you.”
My lips parted, but no words came out. The world tilted for a second, and I let my head fall back against the pillow. The very person who had almost taken everything from me had also been the one to make sure I was
saved.
