Mending a Broken Love (Roxanne and Sebastian) novel Chapter 144

Angeline's face looked way too much like Amethyst's—Yasmin's biological mother—for Roxanne not to notice. Did they think she was blind?

Amethyst probably didn't know this, but back when Roxanne and Marilyn were living in Riverton, Carl used to show up several times a year, begging to get back together with Marilyn. He would try to win over Roxanne too.

Too bad neither she nor Marilyn ever bought it.

She had asked Marilyn once what exactly had gone down between her and Carl. It turned out that Carl got ahead thanks to Marilyn's support but then turned around and took her for granted. Later, he regretted it after losing her. However, it was too late.

The funny thing was, the only reason Carl and Amethyst ever got involved in the first place… was Angeline.

Angeline was a student Marilyn had once helped. They went to college together and become close friends.

But Angeline was jealous of how beautiful Marilyn was. She was jealous of her personality, her wealthy background, and her popularity. Men were constantly falling over themselves to chase her.

Angeline, on the other hand, was the classic ugly duckling. So, she snapped and made it her mission to make Marilyn miserable. First, she tried seducing Carl. And sure, Carl might've been a social climber, but he was shallow. He only went for looks. That said, he wasn't interested in Angeline.

When she learned the reason, she was furious but refused to give up.

That was when Amethyst happened to go through a breakup. Though the two sisters shared blood ties, their looks couldn't have been more different. Amethyst was stunning. Soft and delicate, she had the kind of beauty that made men want to protect her the second they saw her.

And sure enough, Carl couldn't resist.

Amethyst and Angeline were a twisted pair.

Roxanne easily recognized Angeline as there were a bunch of old photos of Angeline with Marilyn back in the day.

There was no way she would believe Angeline had shown up today just to give her a heads-up out of kindness. So, as she watched Angeline drive away, she muttered under her breath, "With that kind of mindset, you're just asking for a car crash."

Just as they got her onto the riverbank, a man in black came running over. He had a long scar down one cheek, and the moment he reached her, he scooped her up in his arms and sprinted off toward the hospital.

He radiated danger, but when it came to Angeline, he was all gentle. Their relationship was pretty obvious.

Roxanne didn't stick around.

Angeline clearly had bad intentions, but one thing she had said was true—if she could find Roxanne that quickly, Sebastian wouldn't be far behind.

She wanted to talk to Zachary about it, but he was out today, accompanying his professor to a private art exhibition. He wouldn't be back until tomorrow night.

The event was ultra-exclusive too. Hence, no phones were allowed.

She pressed her palms together. "Please, let Sebastian be a few days late…"
