"Yes, Mr. Hayes," Cayden replied.
Nicholas looked into Sebastian's dark, inky eyes and patted him on the shoulder.
"It's not that you haven't been expressing yourself clearly. It's that in the past, you expressed yourself too clearly. Do you feel it? Everyone around you thinks you like Liana. Who would dare lay a hand on someone you like?"
Nicholas' words carried a double meaning.
Because everyone believed he liked Liana, Liana received absolute favoritism wherever she went. Anything and anyone related to Liana had to be handled with extreme caution.
And Roxanne—because everyone knew Sebastian didn't care about her, didn't value her, and didn't keep her in his heart, anyone could step on her. Anyone could mock her without consequence.
The atmosphere in the hospital ward grew heavy.
Sebastian's handsome face was dark and grim. It was like he had a gloomy cloud hanging over his head.
After a long while, the four outside shuffled back in with tiny, reluctant steps. They looked like they were walking to their execution. They glanced at each other before Jake finally stepped forward.
"Mr. Hayes, after discussing among ourselves, we think that if you're trying to pursue Roxanne… you might have to lower your stance a little… Would you be willing to accept that?"
Jake was quick-witted. He almost blurted out that Sebastian would be acting like a homewrecker.
Phew. That was a close call. He nearly lost his life right there.
Even now, it felt unreal just thinking about it. The great, untouchable Sebastian—reduced to the third wheel?
Roxanne was already married, for God's sake.
Earlier, the four of them had discussed this thoroughly and reached a conclusion.
Sebastian was the perfect cliché. He didn't appreciate what he had, realized too late what he lost, and was now setting himself up for failure when he tried to win her back.
If Roxanne were still single, maybe there would have been a sliver of hope. But she wasn't. She was married.
At this point, if Sebastian pushed any further, he wouldn't just be crossing a line—he would be blowing right through it, both morally and legally.
