Taylor instinctively shuddered under the cold, murderous intent in Sebastian's gaze. His sharp tone softened into something more respectful. "I apologize for overstepping."
Sebastian stared at him icily, his deep-set eyes void of warmth.
"Taylor, you're just a doctor. Do your job. Don't concern yourself with things that aren't your business. Why was Liana there tonight? Why that private room, of all places? Just because I don't say anything doesn't mean I don't know. If you ever help her pull these little stunts again, you know what'll happen."
A sinking feeling clenched in Taylor's chest as fear crept up his spine.
For years, Sebastian had indulged Liana so much that he had almost forgotten that Sebastian was still the head of the Hayes family. He was the man who held absolute power over life and death. And yet, he dared to raise his voice at him and show his dissatisfaction time and time again.
He must have lost his mind. "Mr. Hayes, sorry for crossing the line."
Sebastian withdrew his hand from Liana's grasp with an unreadable expression.
The moment he let go, Liana panicked. "No, no! Don't!"
Her hands flailed desperately in the air, reaching for him like he was the only thing keeping her alive.
Sebastian shot Taylor a look. Without a word, Taylor understood and stepped forward, placing his hand in Liana's.
As soon as she grabbed onto something, her frantic breathing steadied a little. "Sebastian… I love you…"
Taylor's heart tightened, and his instinctive reaction was to glance at Sebastian. But Sebastian was already at the door. Not once did he pause—not even for a second. It was as if he hadn't heard Liana's desperate murmur at all.
Liana froze, all color draining from her face. A flicker of hatred flashed in her clear eyes as her hands clenched into fists. She hated herself, but she hated Roxanne even more. It was because she had been there too.
She had just been a step too late, and Roxanne had stolen her chance. If she had taken that knife for Sebastian, things would be different now. He would already be hers. After all, it was only after Roxanne got hurt that Sebastian agreed to the engagement.
It was all Roxanne's fault.
If only she didn't exist…
Taylor sighed. "Liana, you can't push too hard. You're making a scene here, and Roxanne is making a scene over there. In the end, Sebastian can only choose one."
His meaning was clear.
