Wasn't the engagement party canceled on its own? After two failed attempts, it was clear that she and Sebastian were never meant to be.
Besides, in a few days, she would be leaving for another country. That would be the final step in cutting ties with him completely.
…
When Peter arrived at the private lounge, Sebastian was already downing one drink after another. His expression was dark and grim.
If it weren't for Peter, no one else would dare to approach Sebastian right now. The suffocating tension around him was enough to freeze anyone in place.
Peter grabbed a bottle of liquor from the bar, opened it, and took a seat next to Sebastian.
"This isn't like you," he remarked as he poured himself a drink. "The second engagement party fell through. Are you actually upset about it?"
Right now, all of Valoria was buzzing about Sebastian and Roxanne's second failed engagement. The first one didn't happen, and the second one didn't happen either.
At this point, even fate seemed to be saying they weren't meant to be. Sebastian didn't respond and just kept drinking.
Peter raised a brow curiously. "I heard Liana was kidnapped, and you traded Roxanne to save her. Is that true?"
Sebastian's brows furrowed instantly, and he shot Peter a deathly glare. But Peter wasn't the least bit intimidated. In fact, his curiosity only grew.
"Seriously, though. I really want to know—who do you care about more? Roxanne or Liana? Or is it that you want both?"
Yet when Roxanne drugged him back then, he never truly held it against her. Maybe he did have feelings for her after all?
Peter patted Sebastian's shoulder and said sincerely, "If you really like Roxanne, you've got a problem on your hands. If you care about her, how could you let her go through so much suffering? You know exactly how people in Valoria mock and ridicule her.
"And now, you even used her to trade Liana's safety. Your actions don't look like those of a man who loves and cherishes someone."
In Valoria's social circle, everyone lived for status and reputation. Everyone had sharp eyes. If Sebastian truly valued Roxanne, no one would dare to mock her.
But who wasn't sneering at Roxanne? And Liana? She was known as the "Princess of Valoria".
Whose princess? Sebastian's. Wherever Liana went, she was pampered and protected. Side by side, the difference was stark. Roxanne had been completely overshadowed and cast aside.
