Mending a Broken Love (Roxanne and Sebastian) novel Chapter 96

The next morning, Nicholas helped Roxanne set up her IV drip. With a smile, he explained, "You can be discharged from the hospital after these three bags of IV drips are empty. Once you're home, make sure to get a lot of rest and drink lots of water. It'll help with flushing out the toxins in your body."

Roxanne had a good impression of Nicholas. He was one of the very few people who treated her with kindness in Valoria. "Thank you," she said.

Nicholas gave her an injection and also hooked her up to the IV drip. His eyes roamed over her pale hand as if he was searching for something.

Roxanne assumed he was looking for the spot where she was bitten by the venomous snake. She showed him her arm and said, "Here."

Nicholas smiled at her after noticing the fading bruises that had been left behind on her arm. "I'm not looking for your wound. I'm looking for your ring. You're not wearing the ring that Sebastian gave to you?"

Roxanne was stunned for a moment before the edges of her lips curled upward. "Why do you know about Sebastian giving me a ring?"

Nicholas burst into a laugh. "Didn't you send a video to Liana showing off the ring to her? I happened to be passing by when she was going crazy in her ward. When I entered, she showed me the video and asked if it was real."

Nicholas shot a sly look at Roxanne. He teased, "Did Sebastian really beg for your forgiveness while crying and kneeling on the ground?"

Roxanne's face turned crimson instantly. She didn't expect Nicholas to know that she had been talking about Sebastian behind his back.

Roxanne laughed nervously. "Haha… It was just… a joke."

Nicholas nodded with a smile, his eyes filled with deep mirth. "I get it. Actually, I think you're fine the way you are. You should know when to go on the offense, so you're not always on the back foot. You should be like that when you're facing Sebastian, and especially when you're facing Liana. If you keep allowing them to step all over you, you'll find yourself backed into a corner."

His words reminded Roxanne of her old self. She kept giving and giving, yet what did she get in return? She only got disappointment and sorrow after she pushed herself to the brink. But she was better now, and she knew how to retaliate.

Seeing the upset expression on her face, Nicholas decided to soften his tone. "But your efforts are finally bearing fruit. It's obvious that Sebastian's behavior has changed, and he even proposed to you. I'm sure your future with him is going to be wonderful."

Roxanne's expression remained passive. She didn't refute his words because she couldn't. It was true that she had been a fool for the past seven years. If not, she wouldn't have put up with Sebastian's cold and callous attitude toward her. She wouldn't have allowed herself to be hurt so deeply.

Nicholas had seen right through her, but he had gotten one thing wrong. Her efforts had not borne fruit nor did she wish for Sebastian to change. She had given up on him completely. She would not live happily with Sebastian because her life in the future would no longer concern him.

But there was no need to tell Nicholas any of this. "Thank you. I'll take your words to heart."

Nicholas sounded pleased when he asked, "Where's the ring? Let me have a look."
