Chapter 11
Edith suddenly felt her hearing sharpen like never before. She could actually make out the gossip coming from the students on the third and fourth floors.
“That new girl is Hallie’s sister. Not as pretty, but way better at flirting.”
“Larry and Kelvin are the top guys in school, and they were both talking to her? Who does she think she is?”
“She’s kind of a badass. I heard she beat Noreen up. Noreen always throws her weight around because of her family. Serves her right!”
She even caught the teachers chatting in the office.
“That transfer student in Class One? Her grades are a mess. She’s still stuck on middle school–level stuff.”
“Good thing she works hard. She’s been really focused and well–behaved in class. Give her three months of hell training, she might just scrape into college.”
“I’ll make her a custom study plan tomorrow. She’s got potential–just needs the right push.”
Edith rubbed her ears. This Super Hearing was kind of insane. She was hearing way too many things she wasn’t supposed to
Across from her, Kelvin looked mildly stunned.
A moment ago, Edith had glared at him like she wanted to kill him, and now she was all sweet smiles, calling him a hot guy and even saying he was hotter than Larry.
“Edith.” Larry whispered, “everyone says I’m hotter than Kelvin. You sure you’re not into him or something? Just saying, love makes people blind.”
Edith smacked the back of his head. “A hot guy should be seen, not heard.”
In her previous life, when she ran into Larry again, her reputation had already been trashed thanks to Karen’s scheming.
ryone hated her. Larry’s mom, Stella, kept a tight leash on him and never let him get close to her.
Later, Edith spent ten years in the hospital. Even then, Larry, who was working overseas, flew back twice a year just to see
her.
She knew Larry truly cared about her. So this time, she wanted to change his fate.
In her previous life, a small accident had kept Larry from getting into Bonrea University–his biggest regret.
“I want you to tutor me,” Edith said. “Do you have time?”
She knew Larry’s grades were good enough to ace the SAT right now. To get him into Bonrea University, she only needed to watch out for that accident.
But in her previous life, they weren’t all that close, so Edith never figured out what exactly went wrong. This time, she had to stick by his side–so she could stop it before it happened.
Edith and Larry settled on a tutoring schedule. Starting tomorrow, Larry would help her study for an hour every evening.
After they finished talking, the two of them headed to the cafeteria for dinner. Behind them, Kelvin’s gaze grew more and more conflicted.

Chapter 11
Out of nowhere, a girl walked past Kelvin and shoved a small box of chocolates into his arms.
“Kelvin, you’re so hot. I’ve had a crush on you for a long time,” she said shyly–then turned and ran off
Kelvin frowned slightly. Yet another girl calling him handsome, but somehow, it didn’t hit the same way it did when Edith said it.
After a long day of classes, Edith packed up her bag and headed for the school gate.
It was her second day back in the past. She wanted to check on her youngest brother Shaun while things were still relatively calm at school.
Cedric and Zachary were only a few years younger than her, and she believed they could take care of themselves. But Shaun was different–he was so young and had severe autism. She had to see him with her own eyes to feel at ease.
Edith got on the bus and rode to the special school.
The sky gradually darkened as streetlights blinked on, one by one. Their amber glow lit up the night. Watching the busy streets and the rush of people getting off work, Edith felt a strange sense of reality creeping back in.
She stepped off the bus with the crowd and stood in front of the special school.
Shaun had been sent to this school right after he was diagnosed with autism at age three. He had just turned eight this year.
Edith remembered that when she left the Lovett Manor, Shaun was barely two–just learning how to walk. She could still picture him toddling after her, crying his eyes out with those chubby little legs wobbling behind her.
After checking in at the front gate, Edith headed straight for the children’s dormitory.
All the kids here had special needs. About thirty children shared one big room, and there were assigned staff members responsible for their care.
ith stopped at the door, smiling politely at the woman on duty. “Hi, I’m Shaun Lovett’s sister. I’m here to see him. Could 14 bring him out for a minute?”
The teacher’s expression froze for a split second.
Without saying a word, she stepped in front of Edith, subtly blocking her view. Clearing her throat, she said, “Shaun went to bed early. Maybe come back tomorrow?”
Edith instantly sensed something was off. Her voice turned cold. “Wake him up. I need to talk to him–it’s important.”
The teacher kept her tone patient. “Kids around his age are growing fast. Waking them up once they’re asleep could affect their development…”
But Edith shoved her aside without hesitation. She strode into the room and counted thirty small beds–only one of them was empty. The name tag on the headboard read Shaun Lovett.
Her expression darkened. “Where is my brother?”
The teacher’s face tightened, but she forced herself to stay calm. “Shaun made a small mistake today, and I gave him a light scolding. He stormed off, but I’m sure he’ll be back soon.”
Edith’s eyes were sharp as glass. Her voice dropped. “An eight–year–old disappears at night and no one goes to look for him? You didn’t even call his family?”

Chapter 11
The teacher flinched and took a step back. She was shocked that a teenage girl could be this intimidating
With a long sigh, she finally said, “Shaun’s autism has been getting worse. Lately, he’s even shown signs of aggression. I called Mrs. Lovett about it three months ago, but she didn’t care. If the parents don’t take it seriously, what can we teachers do?
“These past few weeks, he’s been acting up more. Every time we scold him, he runs off.
“The first time it happened, I did try calling your mom. But she just said Shaun needs to grow up and learn to deal with these things. So… we stopped contacting the family after that.”
Edith’s heart skipped a beat. It was Karen again. She was the reason for Shaun’s worsening condition.
In her previous life, Edith had been too overwhelmed with her own problems to pay Shaun any attention. But she knew Shaun would never hurt anyone first. Someone must’ve pushed him, and he simply fought back. That was why he ran off alone.
Edith swallowed her rage and said coldly, “Now, I want every teacher in this school looking for Shaun. If anything happens to my brother, I will hold all of you accountable.”
