Chapter 10
“You bitch, Edith!” Noreen screamed, completely losing it. “Let go or I swear I’ll kill you”
Edith shoved her head back into the sink without a word. She silently counted to three, then yanked her back up again.
Noreen choked on the water, coughing hard, her face pale as a sheet.
The girls around them stood frozen in shock. None of them had expected the new girl to be this strong. Edith was much tougher than them.
Edith raised an eyebrow at them. “Anyone else want a turn?”
“N–no, we’re good!” they stammered, scrambling out of the restroom like their lives depended on it.
Edith let go of Noreen like she was tossing out trash. Her smile was calm but sharp as a blade. “Let this be a lesson. There
won’t be a second time.”
She rinsed her hands, fixed her hair in the mirror like nothing had happened, and casually walked out of the bathroom.
Noreen slumped to the floor, soaked and trembling beside the sink.
“You bitch,” she spat. “You won’t get away with this. Just wait.”

Back in the classroom, Edith returned to her seat.
“You okay?” Cathy whispered. “I overheard Noreen and her friends saying they were gonna come after you.”
Thanks for asking. I’m fine,” Edith said, tilting her head slightly. “Though I think Noreen might be calling in sick.”
nough, when the bell rang, Noreen’s seat was still empty.
focused right back on her notes.
SAT was just three months away. Every second in class mattered. Anything she didn’t fully understand, she wrote down carefully. She didn’t let herself slack off for even a minute.
Before she knew it, it was lunchtime.
Cathy smiled kindly. “Wanna come to the cafeteria with me?”
Let’s eat together tomorrow, Edith said as she packed up her books. “There’s someone I need to find first”
She headed out of the room and made her way to the Honors Class.
The Honors Class students were the top of the top at Sunspire High. Their classroom was isolated, right next to the faculty offices
Even during lunch break, no one in that room was goofing off Heads down, books open, pens scribbling–just another day.
Edith stopped at the door and said coolly, Larry Come out
The second she said the name, every single student in the room looked up at once.

Chapter 10
Their days were packed with lectures, textbooks, and practice tests–fulfilling, sure, but also incredibly boring. So anytime a girl came looking for Larry, it was the day’s best entertainment.
Larry Larson was the star of Sunspire High. Tall, handsome, and ridiculously smart. Just like Kelvin Murphy, he was one of the school’s top students.
But unlike Kelvin–who was friendly and easy to talk to–Larry didn’t bother being nice. He acted like no one was worth his time. Any girl who dared to confess to him would be crushed by his mean words.
After over a month, another bold girl had shown up to confess to Larry.
The Honors Class students all set their pens down and looked up, ready to enjoy the show. Moments like these were rare in their otherwise dull academic lives.
Larry didn’t even glance up. He kept writing, his handwriting just as perfect as his face–clean, sharp, almost machine–like.
“Larry, are you deaf or something?” Edith frowned and added coldly.
Gasps rippled through the classroom. No girl had ever dared to talk to Larry like that.
Larry finally put down his pen and slowly looked up. The second he saw Edith, his eyes widened.
And then, to everyone’s shock, Larry–Sunspire High’s star student and heartthrob–pushed back his chair and ran to the door. There was zero grace or composure in his sprint.
“Did he just snap?”
“Did she really call him deaf? Oh, he’s gonna roast her.”
“Larry doesn’t go easy on girls. This is gonna be brutal.”
Amid the chorus of whispers, Larry reached Edith in one breathless dash.
eyes sparkled He didn’t seem to know what to do with his hands, and his mouth opened and closed like he’d completely gotten how to speak.
hat gave him a look of pure annoyance. It’s been years and you’re still the same.”
Edith you’re back, Larry said, eyes going red. “Why did you leave without saying anything six years ago? Do you have any idea how worried I was?”
You were always a crybaby, and now look at you. Edith shook her head. Come on. Let’s talk somewhere che
She turned and walked down the stairs, and Larry followed instantly, trailing behind her like a loyal sidekick.
The Honors Class was stunned.
“Holy crap. Larry almost cried
“The cool guy we all know is literally following that girl like a lapdog”
“Who is she? I’ve never seen her before!
“I heard she’s the new transfer in Class One. Hallie Lovett’s sister.”

Chapter 10
Edith and Larry had just reached the bottom of the stairs when a familiar figure walked toward them
The second she saw him, Edith’s expression turned ice–cold.
It was Kelvin Murphy–the man who had screwed her over countless times in her previous life.
He used to say he loved her, but behind her back, he had a thing going on with Hallic. He swore he’d save her, but in the end, he married Hallic instead.
Hallie had always been openly vicious, but Kelvin? He was a total fake. The kind of guy who wanted the best of both worlds -Edith’s love and the benefits that came with being close to Hallic.
Two–faced didn’t even begin to cover it. He could lie through his teeth while smiling sweetly, and no one would see it coming.
Edith’s frosty stare made Kelvin pause and frown. He was sure he’d never met this girl before. She didn’t look familiar at all.
But he did recognize Larry. So he asked, “Larry, is this another girl bothering you? Need me to step in?”
Larry–usually cold and distant–actually smiled. “That’s Edith Lovett. The one I told you about.”
Kelvin gave Edith another look, this time with more interest. He was a little surprised that this ordinary–looking girl was the childhood friend Larry had been obsessed with for six whole years.
His gaze made Edith uncomfortable. She was just about to say something when the system chimed in: [New mission: A top- tier heiress always has admirers. Compliment your admirer and make him fall head over heels for you.]
Edith rolled her eyes, thinking that Heiress System should be renamed the Heartbreaker System.
She wasn’t into leading guys on–but if the target was Kelvin, she could make an exception.
So she flashed a sweet smile and said, “Hey, you’re a hot guy. Even hotter than Larry.”
System: [Mission complete. Reward unlocked: Super Hearing. Excellent hearing is a must–have skill for any heiress.]
