Zachary slammed the book shut, eyes wide with disbelief. “What the hell? You’re actually into this kind of stuff?”
Blake’s face flushed a bit. “Well, all the guys in our class have been sneaking a look at this. I figured you were the last holdout, so I brought it over to introduce you to the wild side.”
Zachary’s heart started pounding out of nowhere. He’d never actually gotten his hands on this kind of “banned book” before, but he’d heard rumors. Honestly, it was just what teenagers did.
The more parents tried to ban something, the more they wanted a peek, just for that forbidden thrill,
Zachary quietly cracked the book open, and bam. The first page showed a seriously busty lady.
Blake leaned in to read it as well.
Suddenly, a voice rang out from behind, “You two punks, secretly checking out this kind of stuff? Seriously?”
Zachary’s heart just about leapt out of his chest. He thought, ‘If Dad catches me with this, I’m done for.
He slammed the book shut, stuffed it into the drawer as fast as he could, and then turned around.
It was Gavin standing there.
“What’s there to be scared of? Guys liking girls is just the way it is,” Gavin said, unfazed. “Come on, what’s so great about looking at pictures in a book? Let me show you something way more intense.”
Blake immediately asked, “Like what?”
Gavin said, “Come with me.”
Gavin headed straight toward his room. Blake yanked Zachary along to catch up.
Zachary was kind of hesitant. It was close to eleven and Edith still hadn’t shown up, which was weird.
He glanced into the room next door. Joseph was still up gaming. He thought, ‘Alright, then. I’ll just check it out for a sec. Just one look and I’m out.
Gavin’s guest room was behind the living room on the first floor. He pushed the door open, ushered the two kids inside, and then locked the door.
Edith got home just ten minutes before eleven. She walked in, and the place was dead quiet. She could barely make out Hallie softly reciting vocabulary words in her room on the second floor:
Edith headed up to the third floor, and Joseph immediately whipped out his homework obediently. “Edith, I’ve finished my homework. Wanna check it?”
Edith took a quick look and noticed Joseph had really stepped up his game. His homework was almost perfect, and he seemed super focused.
She smiled and said, “I might be getting home late for a while, so don’t wait up for me to check your homework. Just go to bed.”
She glanced over at Zachary’s room, frowning. “Where’s Zachary? Where’d he go?”
“No idea,” Joseph said, scratching his head. “Zachary’s friend came over for tutoring, so maybe he’s just walking him home.”
Edith walked into the next room and saw Zachary’s finished homework on the desk. She thought, ‘Mr. Campbell has already graded it, and Zachary has rewritten everything. He’s definitely finished his work for the day!
Just as she was about to leave, she spotted a math workbook in the drawer.
She thought, ‘Since when is Zachary into math?‘

Chapter 118
feeling curious, she pulled the book out and cracked it open. The moment she saw the first page, her expression darkened instantly
She headed downstairs and spotted Dallas tidying up in the living room. Doing her best to stay calm, she asked, “Which one of Zachary’s friends came by today? Do you know where they went?”
Dallas answered, “It was a kid named Blake Sterling. He’s pretty close with Zachary and comes over pretty often. I think the two of them went off somewhere with Gavin.”
Edith’s eyes narrowed. She usually tuned out all the things she’d rather not hear, but this time she let that skill back online.
Some strange noises started seeping out from the guest room behind the living room, landing straight in her ears.
Then, her face instantly turned sullen with rage.
The small guest room was pitch dark, with only the flicker of the TV cutting through the shadows.
The glow washed over the three of them, each face reflecting something different.
Blake’s breathing grew heavy, but he just couldn’t look away.
Gavin snickered, “This is nothing. When there’s a chance, I’ll take you two out to a real club. Innocent kids like you need a seasoned player to guide you. Trust me, it’s a whole new world.”
Right as he was talking, footsteps suddenly echoed outside the door.
Zachary jumped to his feet. “I’m heading back to my room.”
“What are you freaking out for?” Gavin pulled him right back down. “Door’s locked. No one’s bursting in. Just keep watching.”
Suddenly, the locked door was smashed open with a single kick.
The door crashed loudly to the ground. The three guys inside were totally stunned, while the TV kept blaring with wild scenes that no kid was supposed
to watch.
Edith just felt absolutely disgusted.
Gavin scrambled to shut off the TV and then said, “Ahem… Edith, what are you doing here? This isn’t what it looks like, really… We were just, ub. Never mind. Let’s talk outside, okay?”
“Gavin,” Edith said, her voice icy and clipped. “You’re an adult. You can do whatever you want, but how dare you drag my brother into this!”
Getting called out to his face by a girl like that made Gavin’s expression darken.
He said, “Come on, Zachary’s fourteen. He’s in his teens! What’s the problem? Just think of it as a learning experience, teaching him what it takes to be a real man.”
Edith could feel rage boiling in her chest.
In her previous life, Zachary had drowned himself in women, and after his face was ruined, he pretty much wasted every night lost in clubs and parties.
She refused to let Zachary fall into that same downward spiral again.
Gavin waved a hand, totally unfazed. “Edith, it’s nothing–just a little harmless fun. Honestly, these films aren’t just for guys. Girls should check them out. too. Why don’t you stay and watch with us?”
Edith grabbed Gavin’s wrist, twisted him around in one brutal motion, and then drove her foot right into the back of his knee.
With a heavy thud, Gavin dropped straight to his knees.

Chapter 118
Dallas hurried over, his face full of shock. “Ms. Lovett, what happened here?”
“Dallas, I want some snack food from the late–night street market. Go buy me some,” Edith said coldly.
Dallas knew that she was intentionally sending him away, so he wouldn’t get caught in the crossfire.
He could never take Karen’s side, but if he openly supported Edith, he’d be out of a job by tomorrow. If he left the Lovett family, there’d be no one left to take care of Edith and the four boys.
Dallas sighed, and then called Cody over. “Ms. Lovett hired you, so it’s your job to keep her safe. Go check if she needs any help.”
Cody had heard the ruckus ages ago. Then he shot over at once.
Edith said coldly, “Bring me a rope.”
Cody nodded and left to find one. The Lovett family’s servants, too intimidated to help, said nothing, so he just headed out to the yard, grabbed the clothesline, and brought it inside.
Edith bound Gavin’s hands tightly with the rope.
“Let me go! Are you insane, Edith? How dare you do this to me?” Gavin yelled.
It barely looked like Edith was even trying, but no matter how hard Gavin fought, he just couldn’t break free. In the end, he was trussed up tight, like a
mummy.
Edith said coldly, “Cody, lock him up in the attic on the fourth floor.”
The house technically only had three stories. The so–called fourth floor was really just an empty attic, where all the random junk got tossed.
Cody grabbed Gavin and hauled him upstairs toward the attic.
Gavin kept yelling for help, but Cody just pulled off his own sock and shoved it right into Gavin’s mouth. And just like that, the place was dead silent.
Edith’s eyes, cold as frost, swept over the two boys in front of her, pinning them in place with that icy stare.
