Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 136

The plane glided through the clouds. It was just over an hour by flight from Sunspire to Bonrea.

Kerrie, with visible effort, dragged both her suitcase and Edith’s as they made their way out. Sure, she was a little older than Edithjust over ten yearsbut she wasn’t any stronger.

Let me take them, Ms. Clark,Edith offered, reaching out. She snatched both suitcases away and carried them with such ease.

Kerrie quietly twisted her wrist to alleviate the soreness, thinking, All those years at the piano and barely any real exercise. I am outdone by a teenage girl.’

As they stepped out of the terminal, they spotted June and her two companions standing right by the entrance.

Kerrie turned to Edith. Should we go with them? After all, they were family, and she didn’t want Edith to have things become tense with her own people.

Edith shook her head. Let’s just get a cab to the hotel. I want somewhere quiet to finish my test

paper.

Kerrie opened her eyes wide. On the plane, Edith had been engaged in her science book the whole time. Kerrie thought she would want a nap after a flight, but here she was, already talking about doing a test paper.

If only I’d been half this hardworking back in the day, maybe I wouldn’t be teaching music in a small place,’ Kerrie mused, a little ruefully.

“Edith, you work so hard. I’m sure you’ll get into your dream university,Kerrie said, her voice full of genuine admiration.

Just as Kerrie pulled out her phone to order a cab, she glanced up and saw a car pull up right in front of the airport, and a familiar figure stepped out. She was stunned and blurted out, MMr. Raine?

Edith looked over and instantly recognized the man. It was Harvey Raine, the piano maestroalso one of the judges for the upcoming competition.

To boost her chances, Edith had researched every judge, dissecting their musical preferences and typical choices. Harvey was a heavyweight in the field, easily ranking in the top three for reputation and authority among the ten judges this year. His verdict mattered a lot.

Kerrie barely contained her excitement. Years ago, I actually had the chance to share a dinner with Mr. Raine. We even talked for fifteen minutes or so. I wonder if he still remembers me. I’ll go sa

go say hi.

Chapter 136

At 31, Kerrie was still a junior in the piano world, while Harvey, in his forties, was already a true maestro. Kerrie was excited to meet the person she admired.

But just as she was about to step forward, Harvey strode right past her and headed straight for June, flashing a warm smile. Professor Lovett, it’s been a while.

June greeted him with her characteristic poise. Mr. Raine, it’s truly an honor to have you pick us up in person. Allow me to introduce youthis is my niece and also my student, Hallie, and this is Hallie’s mother, Ms. Crawford.

Karen, who knew Harvey from his photos in the competition profiles, put on her most courteous smile. Mr. Raine, it’s a pleasure to meet you.

Harvey was refreshingly downtoearth. He checked the time and said, Let me get you all to the hotel. We’ll have dinner at seven tonight with a person.

June’s gaze sharpened with curiosity. Mr. Raine, is this dinner about what I think it is?

Exactly,Harvey replied with a knowing smile. My teacher is basically the top judge for this competition, and she seldom comes back home. If I weren’t her student, there’s no way I’d ever get to

invite her to dinner.

June finally felt at ease. Harvey’s teacher was the undisputed matriarch of the piano world. June had spent years in the industry, hearing her legendary name but never once meeting her. She’d been dreaming of finally seeing her in person.

June and her group climbed into the car with Harvey, and soon they were gone.

Kerrie stood frozen, eyes wide. Professor Lovett is actually familiar with Mr. Raine? And he even came to pick her up in person. That’s just unbelievable.

She thought to herself, With Mr. Raine already on Hallie’s side before things even kick off, getting through the prelims is a sure thing for Hallie.

And the finals? She’ll probably be at least top three, no question. Kerrie couldn’t help but feel a bit down.

Edith didn’t care at all. She just flashed a careless smile and said, Come on, there are ten judges. It’s not like he gets to call all the shots.”

Kerrie didn’t want to pile on, so she called for ride ridehailing service. As they waited, she heard Edith muttering, and when she listened closer, she realized that she was reciting physics formulas. Kerrie was at a loss. A pang of guilt hit her.

If I hadn’t convinced Edith to join the competition, she wouldn’t be scrambling to study like this,’ she thought.

“Edith.A familiar voice called out.

Edith, totally absorbed in reciting her formulas, didn’t react at all.

But Kerrie caught on instantly. That’s Larry. Edith, Larry’s in Bonrea too.

Ms. Clark.Larry came over, greeting her with a grin before turning to Edith. Edith, you’re here for the piano contest, right? If I hadn’t bumped into you here, I wouldn’t even have known you were in Bonrea.

Edith asked with concern, How’s your grandpa holding up?

The smile slipped off Larry’s face as he shook his head. We’re doing all we can, but now it’s Just hoping for the best.”

up to fate.

Good things happen to good people. You’ll see. Your grandpa’s going to be fine,Edith said with a gentle smile. And I bet he wants to watch you get into a university in Bonrea himself. So, don’t you dare slack off in your studies.”

Larry couldn’t help but laugh. Come on, I am worried you’d get so caught up in the piano that you’d be the one falling behind in class.

They exchanged a smile.

From a distance, Fiona came striding over. Larry, aren’t you going to introduce me?

One minute ago, Larry was walking with her. And the next, he said he spotted a classmate and dashed off, leaving Fiona behind. Luckily, her assistant was by her side, so it was no trouble for her.

The person they were waiting for hadn’t arrived yet anyway, so Fiona was content to just wait nearby. But then, to her utter shock, she saw Larry laughing and chatting with a young girl.

Larry had always kept people at arm’s lengthhe was just barely more approachable than Marcus, and certainly never the type to mingle with girls. She would never expect to see Larry having a girlfriend.

In Fiona’s mind, any girl who could put a smile on Larry’s face had to be his girlfriendthere was no other explanation. Besides, Larry was eighteen, exactly the age of finding himself a girlfriend.

She’d just gone to see a fortune teller yesterday about Dwight’s health. The fortune teller said what they needed most was some joyous occasionsomething to bring good fortune back to the family.

She’d tried to sound out Marcus about getting married, but it was obvious he had zero interest in it. She and Dwight had brought Marcus a lot of trouble, so she didn’t want to use marriage to tie him down any further.

Larry, on the other hand, was a different story. If he had a girlfriend, getting engaged and married would just come naturally.

Grandma, this is my classmate from Sunspire. She came to Bonrea to take care of some things. And this is Ms. Clark, our school’s piano teacher,Larry introduced. Ms. Clark, Edith, this is my grandma.”

Kerrie smiled and greeted Fiona.

Fiona regarded Edith gracefully, her expression dignified. You’re a pretty girl, truly. Larry’s lucky to have you to be his friend.” As she spoke, she gently reached over and took Edith’s hand.

Edith usually kept some space when meeting new people, so her first reaction was to pull her hand away, but Fiona’s grip just tightened,

Fiona said with a smile, Larry’s a Bonrea local, he ought to treat you. Are you free tonight? Why not come to the Larson Residence for a simple dinner? And Ms. Clark, you’re welcome to join us, too.

Kerrie kept her smile even though she knew she was just invited because of Edith.
