Dwight lay on his bed, with the Larson family standing just a step away, closely surrounding him. Two doctors continuously examined Dwight thoroughly.
At first, Fiona could hold back her tears. She even managed to force a smile and meet Dwight’s gaze.
But as the moments passed, she finally broke down, and tears started streaming down her face.
“Don’t let the kids see you in tears,” Dwight comforted Fiona softly. “I’ve lived for seventy years. That’s more than enough…”
“Dwight, we’ve run four rounds of checks,” the attending doctor said, his expression serious. “Your vital signs have slowly returned to normal levels. Earlier, we found significant kidney failure, but after repeated checks, the failure doesn’t seem as bad as we thought.”
“Dwight, you can’t leave me behind… What?” Fiona sobbed, thinking she was hearing the worst. Tears streamed down her cheeks. But she suddenly froze. She grabbed the doctor’s arm. “You mean he’s actually recovering? Is that right?”
The doctor nodded. “His condition has stabilized. Let’s keep him for another three days for observation.”
Bernard looked incredulous. “But we were told it was incurable.”
The two doctors exchanged puzzled glances. Even after four rounds of checks, they were still baffled. There was no way to explain this in terms of anything they knew in medicine.
“The guy was right! He said Dwight would recover if something good happened to our family.” Fiona was crying and laughing simultaneously. “Marcus is about to settle down. This is the greatest blessing for our family.”
She turned to Bernard. “Bernard, go and donate 1.6 million dollars at the church–no, make it 16 million.”
Bernard had never believed in religion, but when he saw his grandfather recover right in front of him after being at death’s door, he began to believe. He rushed to do what Fiona had asked him to.
Everyone else in the room lit up too, chatting excitedly as they gathered around Dwight.
After a long pause, Fiona finally said, hesitantly, “Dwight, I may have gotten a little ahead of myself earlier. Actually, Marcus and Edith haven’t officially confirmed their relationship yet. They’re still just hitting it off.
‘Don’t mention it in front of him. You know Marcus. If you meddle, he’d probably stop seeing Edith completely
Dwight grinned. “It only took a month before we finally got together back then. Marcus won’t take it longer than I did.”
At the hospital entrance, Marcus opened the car door. Edith got in, and he bent down to fasten her seatbelt
for her.

Edith quickly waved him off. She could handle this kind of thing by herself.

Marcus settled into the driver’s seat but didn’t start the car. Instead, he turned and looked seriously at Edith. “Edith, you saved my father’s life. I don’t know how to ever repay you.”
A line suddenly popped into Edith’s mind: “If someone saves your life, the only way to pay them back is to marry them.”
She responded, “Marcus, it was nothing. Don’t overthink it.”
But Marcus couldn’t just brush off a life–saving favor like that.
He said seriously, “I own over a dozen companies. The biggest is Nexus Group. I’m the sole shareholder. I’ll transfer all the shares to you.”
Edith was stunned, completely floored by what she just heard.
She remembered catching reports about Nexus Group on the news back in her previous life. Ten years later, Nexus Group would become one of the top companies in the world, with annual profits well over a billion dollars.
Dwight’s life was absolutely priceless to the Larson family. If Fiona found out Edith had been the one who saved Dwight, she would probably insist on giving the entire Larson Group to Edith.
Edith didn’t dare accept such a huge thank–you gift.
She spoke up, “I want to start a company of my own, not just get one handed to me.”
Marcus shook his head. “It won’t disrupt your plan. After you take over Nexus Group, you can invest in whatever you like. You can do whatever you want.”
“Mr. Larson, you think so highly of me?” Edith felt a little helpless. “I’m just a high school student. How could I possibly have the ability to run a stable company?
“If you transfer the shares to me, those company executives won’t team up to take me down right after that.”
Marcus’s expression turned cold. “They wouldn’t dare!”
“They won’t if you’re still running it. But after you give me the company, are you going to stay on as CEO?” Edith fixed him with a look. “You can shield me for now, but can you do it forever?”
Marcus fell silent. He could shield her for a lifetime.
But giving her Nexus Group would just land her in huge trouble.
She was still too young, not even eighteen. Her life should focus on studying, not the intrigue of the business
world.
Edith fell silent as well.
If she never took anything from him, Marcus would surely feel indebted to her.

He showed up by her side again and again, and this was honestly starting to stress her out.

She propped her chin with her hand, then suddenly remembered something. With a smile, she said, “Mr. Larson, I actually do have a favor to ask.”
A smile appeared in Marcus’s eyes. “Go on.”
No matter what she wanted, he was more than willing to make it happen.
“Like I said, I’m planning to start my own company, but that’s going to take a lot of cash. Right now, I only have at most 250 thousand dollars,” Edith said seriously. “I can raise another 1.6 million dollars on my own.
If you invest 1.6 million dollars, that gives us a starting fund of 3.2 million dollars. Let’s start a company together, with each of us holding half the shares.”
Marcus frowned.
She had specifically asked for a mere 1.6 million dollars.
This was nothing like what he’d imagined.
“The real estate industry in Sunspire is a mess right now. I want to invest in the industry and earn some money,” Edith explained her plan.
She added, “I’m from Sunspire. I know the city’s real estate plans and everything else pretty well. You can trust me. We should get our investment back in less than six months.”
She relied on her foresight from her previous life. She knew which areas to invest in to recoup money quickly.
Marcus caught the spark in her eyes. He could see she had her own vision and was truly ready for this.
Marcus said, “Alright, I’ll invest 1.6 million dollars. But I won’t handle operations or interfere in anything else. You’ll take charge of everything. You’ll manage it, so you’ll get 80% of the shares, and I’ll take 20%. That’s settled.”
Edith pursed her lips but didn’t voice her objections. If she made enough money, even 20% of the profits wouldn’t be a small amount.
Marcus went on, “You know Kane too. I’ll send him to Sunspire to help you. For anything you can’t handle yourself, just leave it to him.”
Edith could only agree.
As a student, she spent five days a week at school and visited Shaun on weekends. That didn’t leave her with much time to start a company.
But with Kane on board, they should be able to get the company up and running in no time.
